Talking with Isleen after everything that happened last night had been a mood booster. But after she’d left the precinct, he still had to visit one last person.

The Alpha.

He parked his car in front of Beowulf’s mansion, sighing deeply as he gazed at the towering structure. The mansion felt like a completely different world from the pack.

After getting past the guards and security details, he went straight to the Alpha’s study room where he met him sitting quietly after he’d ushered him in.

Just then, Alpha Beowulf raised his head away from the book in his hands and smiled slightly. "Ahh, Gamma Rhett. Please, have a seat."

The man seemed rather calm and cheery for someone who’d just lost his father-in-law.

Rhett sat down on a free chair, taking in the view of the magnificent study room. He was impressed.

The study room was filled with rows upon rows of books, lined up on high shelves that almost touched the ceiling.

Beowulf was standing on top of a rolling ladder, skimming through a book before his arrival. But now, he dropped the book back in its row and climbed down from the ladder.

"So, I believe you have the reports of everything that happened last night," Beowulf uttered, sitting on a cushioned chair that was designed like a throne.

Hmph... The man had an expensive taste.

Rhett cleared his throat before dropping a log book on the table. He’d stayed up all night, meticulously writing down every detail of what happened during the vampires’ attack.

He’d neglected his sleep, but it wouldn’t be a first for him anyway.

Beowulf picked up the log book, merely skimming through the details before dropping it back on the table.

"Good job." He blurted calmly. "But now, I want a vivid description from you. You know, just to get details of what happened."

Rhett’s brows deepened into a frown. "A vivid description? With all due respect Alpha, everything that happened is right there in the log book. I didn’t leave out any details."

He’d almost forgotten how annoying the Alpha was. Darius had been the bane of his career, but Alpha Beowulf was a brick wall, refusing to view things from his perspective and taking a ’modern’ approach to things.

"I insist, Rhett." The Alpha’s tone was flat, almost devoid of emotion. But it held a coldness that Rhett didn’t miss.

He took a mental note before explaining everything that happened... Including Aceco’s arrival and their suspicion that someone among the enlisted soldiers was the shapeshifting vampire in disguise.

But he was careful not to mention that Cullen was their suspect.

There was something off with the Alpha, but he couldn’t quite place his fingers on it. But he had his guard up.

There was still the threat of a potential traitor in their midst and his former bet had been on Beta Darius... Who was now nothing but a shriveled corpse.
