When we arrived home, Kylo didn’t let me climb the stairs.
"You go ahead." He said to Liam who went away without query.
I raised a brow. "Why? We can go discuss inside."
"I don’t want them to hear us arguing again. We already did so before we left."
"And what makes you think we are going to argue?"
"I don’t THINK we are going to argue, Isleen. I know we will!"
No, I wouldn’t allow this. Arguing with Kylo would only make things worse. I might have a slip of the tongue. I needed to tread carefully.
I threw my hands in the air. "Fine, Kylo. Then we argue. Why didn’t I tell you about Gamma Rhett’s visit? It’s because I thought you didn’t have to know!"
"That’s not your decision to make, Isleen. You don’t get to decide that."
"Okay then. Now, you know. Cheers!" I sarcastically scoffed, frustration swelling on me and walked out on him.
Kylo called me back but I just couldn’t. I couldn’t look at him in the eyes and watch him be so worried about me while I kissed his Dad behind his back.
When I entered the apartment, Cullen was busy watching a football match. Liam was also there, watching.
"Come to bed now, Liam. School’s tomorrow." I urged him inside with me.
Cullen’s eyes settled on me weirdly. "Liam, never become like her, okay? She won’t even say hi now."
"Hush, Cullen." I rolled my eyes and strode in with Liam.
"Ouch. Looks like someone is in a bad mood!"
.
I shepherded Liam into the bathroom, watching him fill the tub with a swiftness that surprised me. He’d picked up on things quickly, adapting to his new life with surprising ease.
I waited for him to have his shower and settle in bed before going in for mine. By the time I’d be done, he would have been deep in slumber.
The heaviness of my secrets poked at me as I had my bath after making sure Liam was settled. When I was done, I had a towel wrapped around my body from my boobs down to my waist.
When I glanced at Liam, he was fast asleep as I had calculated. I smiled to myself. Watching him innocently sleep was soothing. The truth was, I was the loneliest girl I know.
Adopting Liam wasn’t totally out of my pity for him but my yearning for companionship. I knew I had Kylo but then, with Kylo, it never felt complete.
I threw down my towel and plucked a nightie from my wardrobe, dressed, and went to sleep beside him. I made sure there was enough space between us, so that he wouldn’t feel too stuffed.
"I need to get a bigger bed." I sighed to myself.
