Reven’s Pov

It’s been five days.

Five long, suffocating days since I found that letter hidden inside my children’s room, tucked neatly in their window like it belonged there.

Like it was nothing more than an innocent piece of paper and nt a threat wrapped in poisonous intent.

But I knew.

I knew exactly who was behind it.

Even lying helpless in her sickbed, even with half the pack whispering prayers for her recovery, she still had the audacity to reach out and remind me that she was watching.

That she had not lost her grip. That she could still reach me. Reach my children.

My fingers curled tightly around my phone as I sat on the edge of my bed, staring blankly at the screen without really seeing anything.

I had scrolled through the same messages at least ten times already old conversations, reminders, nothing important. I didn’t even know what I was looking for, maybe distraction, may be reassurance. Maybe proof that this nightmare wasn’t real.

The room felt too quiet.

Too heavy.

I sighed and locked my phone, tossing it aside before pushing myself off the bed. My body still felt tired, my wolf restless beneath my skin, pacing like she sensed danger even when everything around me looked calm.

Just as I straightened, the door to my room swung open without warning.

I didn’t flinch.

I didn’t need to look up.

There was only one person in this pack who would walk into my room without knocking, without permission, without respect for the boundaries he had shattered years ago.

“What do you want?” I asked flatly.

Alpha Ethan stepped inside, his presence filling the room instantly. Power rolled off him in waves–dominance, authority, and familiarity that my body hated itself for responding to.

“Is that how you greet your Alpha?” he asked coolly as he shut the door behind him. “And the father of your children?”

A laugh burst out of me before I could stop it–sharp, bitter, unamused.

“Alpha?” I repeated, shaking my head. “Indeed.”

His brows furrowed as he took a step closer. “What do you mean by that?”

I crossed my arms over my chest, lifting my chin defiantly. “Wh is an Alpha’s responsibility, Ethan? Isn’t it to protect his pack? His family?”

He exhaled slowly, clearly already irritated. I didn’t stop.

His jaw tightened “Reven, just stop it.”

He walked toward me, stopping at the foot of my bed. His presence loomed, familiar and suffocating.

“I am trying my best,” he said quietly. “You just don’t see it.”

“Trying your best?” I scoffed. “Your mate is threatening my life. he’s threatening our children. And you do nothing. Is that your best?”

The silence stretched between us, thick and dangerous.

“I see,” I continued coldly. “You haven’t changed one bit. If I had known this is who you still were, I would never have allowed you to take custody of my children.”

His eyes flashed. “The Werewolf Council granted me custody, not you.”

“And if I had fought it?” I shot back. “You’re still the same selfish man you’ve always been.”

Something shifted in his gaze, then anger mixed with something darker, something softer.

Before I could react, he closed the distance between us and pulled me toward him. I gasped as he lifted me effortlessly and sat down on the bed, placing me on his lap like it was the most natural thing in the world.

“Ethan-”

His hand slid into my hair, pushing it back gently, possessively.

Every organ in my body screamed at me to push him away.

Every memory, every scar, and every broken promise begged me to fight him.

But my wolf… my wolf howled.

She recognized him, missed him, and hated him for it.

He leaned closer, his forehead resting briefly against mine before his lips brushed mine in a soft kiss.

Just a kiss.

But it shattered me.

This wasn’t the first time he’d kissed me since I returned, but it was worse now. More dangerous. Because my guard was down. Because my anger was burning hot and my heart was still painfully alive.

I hated that my body responded.

I hated that my knees weakened.

I hated that when he deepened the kiss, I didn’t stop him.

His lips crushed against mine, desperate, claiming, and then he hoved lower, pressing kisses along my jaw, down my neck.

My breath hitched as his teeth grazed my skin before he gave a gentle bite.

A low moan slipped from my lips before I could stop it.

His hand came up, gripping my throat–not tight, not painful, just enough to make my pulse race.

“Look at me,” he murmured.

I forced my eyes open, meeting his dark gaze.

“If I told you a million times,” he continued, his voice rough, “that I’m not into Vera…. that it’s you, Raven. Only you. Would you believe me?”

My heart pounded violently.

“I’m investigating everything,” he said. “And you keep acting like don’t care. Like I would ever allow harm to come to you or our children.”

Slowly, he released my throat.

“Take your bath,” he added, standing up and pulling me with him. “Get dressed. I need to show you something.”

I stared at him, confused and wary.

“What?” I asked.

He turned toward the door, his expression unreadable. “Something that will explain everything.”

And then he walked out.

Leaving me standing there, shaken, breathless, torn between fun and longing.

Later

The water cascaded over my body as I stood beneath the shower my hands braced against the tiled wall. My thoughts were a mess, Ethan’s words echoing in my head, his touch lingering on my skin like a brand I couldn’t wash away.

I’m not into Vera.

I laughed bitterly under my breath.

Words were easy, too easy.

After dressing in a simple gown, I stepped out just as a guard appeared.

“The Alpha is waiting for you,” he said respectfully.

I nodded, following him through the corridors until we stopped before a heavy wooden door I had never seen him use before.

The guard opened it.
