The first thing that comes to mind is the rifle in my hand and I bring it up to my view, inspecting it.

I glance down at the rifle in my hand, and take it off safety, lifting it, I take aim, exhaling a slow breath.

My hands rest steadily on the trigger, the noise around fading for a moment as I pull the trigger.

The first gunshot rings through the forest, catching a pheasant hidden in the thicket.

I smile slightly, pleased to see my aim is still true.

A few of the Alphas glance over their shoulders, nodding in acknowledgment of the first kill.

“Cameron, you didn’t mention Laila was such a good shot.” Alpha Tyler, one of Cameron’s friends commented, nudging his wife, Katie.
