Perhaps because she had expended so much energy, Stephanie didn't wake up until noon the next day.
She rolled over, her eyes meeting the bright, floor-to-ceiling windows. It took her a moment to recall the events of the previous night, and then she understood why her entire body ached.
She had been the one to initiate things, mostly out of gratitude for what Jonathan had said.
But beyond gratitude… there was another very important reason: a man that handsome is trouble.
Jonathan was gone, likely at work.
As Stephanie got out of bed, she caught a glimpse of the red and purple hickeys on her skin in the mirror. Blushing, she found a turtleneck in the closet to wear.
Once she was sure everything was covered, Stephanie left the room.
Today, she was going to Ironhold Investment Group to sign the contract, something she and Jonathan had agreed on in bed last night.
If all went as planned, once the papers were signed, Jonathan would take over the management of Meridian Consortium.
Without spending a dime, Jonathan would gain decision-making power over Meridian Consortium, effectively neutralizing a potential competitor.
And while she wouldn't get any money from the deal, the company and its shares were still hers, plus she would gain the production lines from the Ironhold Investment Group merger.
In the long run, the benefits were immense. It was a win-win for both of them.
Just as Stephanie settled into the car, her phone rang.
“We need to talk,” Victoria said.
Stephanie scoffed. “What is there for us to talk about?”
“I can’t stay at Sapphire Group anymore. You’ve completely ruined my career. After all our years as friends, did you really have to destroy me like this?”
“Victoria, you’re the one who stole someone else's research and sold yourself out to Sapphire Group. Now that you can't stay, you're blaming me? You brought this on yourself.”
