Next Man, Better Plan novel Chapter 189

“But to put it bluntly, this company belongs to my boss’s wife. You’re, at best, a glorified employee. When the chairwoman decides she doesn’t want to use you anymore, you have to go. Lingering here won’t change anything; it will only make you look bad.”

Quennel’s expression shifted. “What did you say?”

He actually called him a glorified employee! And said he was lingering!

Steven maintained a professional smile, but his words were sharp. “We’ve already consulted with HR and the legal department. Your annual salary is one million, which comes out to eighty-three thousand a month. You’ve worked at Meridian Consortium for exactly seven years.

According to regulations, since we are terminating your contract, we are required to pay you a severance of twice your monthly salary for each year of service. That comes to approximately 550,000.”

Steven glanced at his watch. “Finance should have already transferred the money to your account. You can check. If there are no issues, please sign this termination agreement.”

As if on cue, Quennel’s phone pinged. He glanced at it and saw a notification for a bank transfer.

His base salary was low, only a million, but he received a massive year-end bonus, at least several tens of millions.

Quennel sneered. “You think you can get rid of me for five hundred and fifty thousand? Are you treating me like a beggar? Who do you think you’re insulting?”

Steven remained unfazed. “Are you saying the money is too little? But that’s what the law dictates.”

Quennel had no desire to continue the conversation. He turned to the security guards. “What are you waiting for? Get these people out of here!”

The guards were about to move forward, but the men Steven had brought with him were no pushovers. As Jonathan’s personal security, they were well-trained, a stark contrast to the building’s security guards who were just there to clock in and out. The difference in their physical presence alone was significant.

Steven said, “I’m sure you’ve all heard by now that Meridian Consortium is getting a new CEO. That is set in stone and cannot be changed.

My boss, Mr. Vasquez, is taking over, and a new boss likes to shake things up. If you want to keep your jobs, you’ll step aside. Afterwards, your salaries will be adjusted to match the standards of Ironhold Investment Group. However, if you choose to disobey the orders of your new superiors, we will have sufficient grounds to terminate your employment.”

As Jonathan’s right-hand man, Steven was shrewd. His words hit their mark, and the guards exchanged uncertain glances.

Everyone knew that Ironhold Investment Group, as the largest company in the industry, offered far better benefits than any other. All they had to do was stay out of this… and they would get a raise.
