The words had barely left his mouth when Quennel swung his fist, smashing it into Yves’s face.
Caught off guard, Yves stumbled backward onto a low table behind him. There was a loud crash as all the glasses on the table tumbled to the floor.
The two had been friends for years. They had gone drinking and schmoozing together, but they had never fought.
Besides, Quennel had always been a gentleman, polite to everyone. Yves had never seen him lay a hand on anyone, let alone with such force.
Half of his face began to swell, and a trickle of blood seeped from the corner of his lip. It hurt to even speak. “What did you hit me for?” Yves asked, bewildered.
“I hit you because you deserved it!” Quennel was already simmering with rage, and Yves had just walked right into the line of fire. “I won’t let you insult Stephanie!”
How dare he compare Stephanie to this group of trashy women?
It finally dawned on Yves that Quennel had hit him for saying Stephanie wasn't wild enough.
But they had broken up. Stephanie was Jonathan’s wife now. What was the point of defending her? She was still another man's wife.
Yves wanted to tell him that there were plenty of women out there. For powerful men like them, they just had to snap their fingers, and women would flock to them. Why hang himself up on one tree?
But he decided against it. Quennel had always been strong-willed, and once he made up his mind, no one could change it. He probably wouldn't listen now anyway.
Quennel wanted to be alone, so Yves left with the group of girls.
A moment later, Victoria approached him. “Quennel…”
At the sound of her voice, Quennel’s brow twitched violently.
After her fall from the balcony that day, not only was she ignored, but she was also arrested by the police for public disturbance and held for two full days. She had only been released today.
Quennel had never met anyone so relentlessly persistent. He didn't even want to speak to her and motioned for the bar’s security to get rid of her.
Victoria grew desperate. “Quennel, how can you be so cruel to me?”
