On the Ruins of His Regret I Soar novel Chapter 117

Susan leaned back against the sofa. "I'm not getting involved in your affairs anymore. But you both better remember one thing: no matter what, you will not neglect Amy. If either of you does, I'll be the first one you have to answer to."

Jessica's heart ached. She had always imagined her daughter would have a childhood as happy as her own. Pushing back the tears, she went upstairs to pack.

As she was about to pull out her suitcase, her phone rang. It was an unknown number. After a moment's hesitation, she answered. "Hello?"

"May I speak with Jessica Brown, please?" a professional, customer-service-like voice asked.

"This is she."

"I'm calling from Thompson Law Associates," the woman said cheerfully. "You registered on our website for our pro bono legal services, is that correct?"

Jessica immediately dropped what she was doing. "Yes, that's right!"

"Well, congratulations! A spot has opened up, and you've been selected."

"Really?"

"Yes. You're very lucky. Mr. Dennis Thompson will be handling your case personally. Could you come to our office tomorrow at two p.m. to meet with him?"

"Yes, of course!"

"Do you have any other questions?"

"No, none at all. Thank you so much!"

After she hung up, Jessica literally jumped for joy. Her luck was finally turning!

Meanwhile, at The Smith Group, Lance was nursing a headache. Catherine was massaging his temples while Aaron James had taken Amy out to play.

Catherine had heard about the divorce papers. "It looks like Jessica is serious this time," she said, watching him with his eyes closed. "What are you going to do?"

The darkness in Catherine's eyes deepened. She forced a smile. "Okay. I'll head home then. Don't work too late."

She took Amy and left the office. On the way, she bought Amy a cup of bubble tea. Then, she drove to a place called Silver Creek Valley.

"Are we going to see the uncle again?" Amy asked, recognizing the familiar scenery.

Catherine smiled gently. "That's right."

Amy took a long sip of her tea. "Mom Catherine, can I have fried chicken for dinner tonight?"

Catherine stroked her head. "As long as Amy is a good girl, Mom Catherine will buy you anything you want."

Amy kicked her legs happily. "You're so much nicer than Mommy. Last time, Mommy tricked me into staying at a tiny hotel. Daddy said those places are dirty and I probably got my tummy ache from staying there."
