[So who exactly is this Jessica Brown? After all these stories, she sounds completely out of control.]
[Yeah, how can one woman be this powerful? I heard she was even in a mental hospital.]
Melissa hugged her dog tightly and sighed. “It’s a long story. Jessica is from the Brown family, but a few years ago her father remarried. After that, she changed completely. She became a tyrant at home, bullying her stepsister so badly that she was afraid to even come home. But her stepsister is a wonderful person. Even though Jessica hated her, she was always kind to Jessica and her child. Six months ago, Jessica accused her of something terrible over a minor issue and drove her to attempt suicide. The family had no choice but to have her committed. The doctors diagnosed her with a severe mental illness, and she spent months receiving treatment. During that time, it was her stepsister who took on the role of mother to Jessica’s child. We all hoped she would get better, but when she got out, she was even worse. Before, she was just verbally abusive and paranoid. Now… now she’s become promiscuous.”
Melissa paused for effect. “In fact, just a little while ago, her stepsister called me. She was begging me not to expose Jessica’s behavior and even apologized on her behalf.”
Overnight, the scandal reached a fever pitch.
When Nathan White saw the news, he immediately called Frank Ward. “Have you told George?”
Frank’s lips thinned. “Bryan just called me. Arthur has given orders that I’m not to visit The Kensington unless it’s an absolute emergency. And even then, I have to see him first.”
Nathan let out a long, frustrated sigh. “You’ve seen the stories online, right?”
“Yes.”
“So, should we tell him or not?”
Nathan walked up to him. “I was Jessica Brown’s attending physician at the hospital. She left without being properly discharged. I was just wondering how she’s doing.”
“Fine,” Lance said curtly. “I’ll see to the paperwork.”
Nathan cleared his throat. “I’ve heard about the stories online. You know how the internet is. It’s all rumors and sensationalism. As long as you believe in her, as long as you two are strong together, you can get through this.”
A cold, humorless smile touched Lance’s lips. “Dr. White, I think you’re mistaken. My marriage to Jessica is over. We’ve already signed the divorce papers. But thank you for your concern. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have things to attend to.”
