On the Ruins of His Regret I Soar novel Chapter 177

Rebecca waved a dismissive hand. “Then no one came.”

Jessica was about to reply when a knock sounded at the door. She went to open it. “George?”

Her face lit up with relief. “George, are you okay? I heard from Dr. White that you…”

George walked in, carrying bags of breakfast.

“Well, well,” Rebecca said from the living room. “So you’re the bodyguard who crippled Lawrence Harris.”

George ignored her and set the breakfast on the dining table. Rebecca pouted but sat down anyway. “Thanks.”

Jessica studied George with concern. “Are you alright?”

Before he could answer, there was another knock at the door. Jessica went to open it.

Lance Smith stood on the threshold. “Jessica,” he said, his voice hoarse. “People are filing complaints about the situation at Willowbrook Gardens. Why didn’t you tell me you had to leave?”

Jessica gripped the doorknob, about to slam the door in his face. Lance blocked it with his hand. “Jessica, I told you, even if we divorce, I’ll still take care of you. And we’re not even divorced yet.”

“Who are you?” Lance repeated, his jaw tight. “You can’t just be a bodyguard.”

Even a bodyguard for the George family would be elite, but this was something else entirely.

“Lance Smith, let him go, or I’m calling the police!” Jessica shouted.

“You’re divorcing me for a man like this?” Lance snarled, turning his fury on her. “He’s nothing but a hired thug! What can he give you? Your mother raised you like a princess, not so you could throw yourself away on someone beneath you! Have you lost your mind? You’re shaming yourself by sleeping with a bodyguard! How could you face your mother?”

“This has nothing to do with you!” Jessica cried, trying to pry Lance’s hands off George. “Let him go, or you’ll regret it!”
