On the Ruins of His Regret I Soar novel Chapter 179

“Ms. Brown, perhaps it would be best if you waited outside,” Nathan suggested gently.

Jessica quickly wiped her eyes. “I won’t disturb you, Dr. White. Please, take care of him.”

Nathan sighed and turned back to his patient, dabbing ointment on the wounds. “You can’t get this wet. Just use a towel to wash for the next few days. No beef or lamb. And to avoid scarring, stay away from spicy foods.”

“You talk too much,” George muttered.

Nathan rolled his eyes, then glanced at Jessica. “Ms. Brown, you agree with me, don’t you?”

“Dr. White is a professional,” Jessica said earnestly to George. “You need to listen to him. Whatever he says is for your own good.”

“Ah,” Nathan said, a warm smile spreading across his face. “Finally, someone who appreciates my expertise. Did you hear that, George? Ms. Brown says you have to be a good patient and listen to your doctor.”

George didn’t reply.

Once the wound was dressed, Nathan said, “You should stay here for a couple of days. I’ll change the dressing once more, and then you can be discharged.”

George frowned, clearly against the idea.

Nathan turned to Jessica. “Could you stay and look after him for a few days?”

“Of course,” she said without hesitation.

A faint, teasing smile played on Nathan’s lips as he looked at George. “So? Are you staying?”

“Go handle the admission paperwork,” George said.

“Right away,” Jessica replied, already heading for the door.

“Not you,” George called after her.

Realizing what had happened, Nathan clicked his tongue. “Fine, fine. I’ll go.”

Jessica came back to George’s side. Once she was sure the medicine on his back was dry, she helped him carefully pull on his shirt. As he moved his arm back, he winced.

Since he hadn’t, Jessica didn’t want to gossip about someone else’s private affairs. “Well, every family has its problems. After I got out of the clinic, almost everyone started avoiding me. Rebecca was the only one who helped me, again and again. It’s ironic. We used to be such bitter rivals.”

George nodded.

Jessica checked the time. “I should go make you some soup. I’m a good cook.”

George nodded again.

As Jessica was leaving, Frank Ward came in. “Mr. George sent me to check on you,” he said to her politely.

She acknowledged him with a small nod and left.

Once she was gone, Frank turned to his boss. “Lance Smith’s assistant just called to request a meeting with you. He said personal or business, whatever works. Do you want to see him?”

George gave Frank a pointed look. “Do you think it’s a good idea for me to see him right now?”
