On the Ruins of His Regret I Soar novel Chapter 262

“Yes,” Anthony said. “I made a call.”

Jessica sat up straight. “Who did you call?”

“I had dinner with the owner of the streaming platform a while back,” he explained calmly, “alongside Mr. George.”

A warm, knowing smile spread across her face. “I knew we had a guardian angel watching over us. Tonight was a massive success, George. How can I ever thank you?”

After a few seconds of silence, he said, “I’m flying back tomorrow.”

Her voice was gentle. “Then let me cook you a proper meal to show my gratitude.”

“Alright,” he agreed.

“What time do you get in?”

“Around five in the afternoon.”

“Perfect. Just in time for dinner.”

“Mm.”

George was a man of few words. Once the plan was settled, they both hung up without another word. Jessica found herself daydreaming about the menu as she worked, finally packing up to go home around ten.

Just as she stepped out of the office building, she heard the sound of frantic footsteps. Before she could react, a rotten egg splattered against her coat. She stumbled back and looked up to see the venomous face of Mrs. Gates.

Security guards were already sprinting toward them from across the lot. In her other hand, Mrs. Gates clutched a small glass bottle. Before she could open it, the guards tackled her and pinned her to the ground.

So, in the middle of the night, Jessica found herself at the police station giving a statement. The police confirmed the liquid in the bottle was diluted hydrochloric acid. Mrs. Gates had apparently tried to buy sulfuric acid to permanently disfigure Jessica but had been scammed. Not only was the acid weak, but she’d been caught before she could even uncap the bottle. Now, she was just screaming incoherently in a holding cell.

He kept pace with her. “Do you have to speak to me like this? Amy misses you.”

Jessica stopped dead in her tracks. She turned to face him, her eyes turning red. “I told you, as far as I’m concerned, I don’t have a daughter anymore.”

His eyes darkened. “Do you have any idea what you’re saying?”

She let out a cold, bitter laugh and started walking again. She knew he was following her, but she had nothing left to say to him.

Finally reaching the parking garage, she went to put her groceries in the trunk. The moment it popped open, she felt a sharp pain in her neck, followed by a wave of heat that spread through her entire body.

Lance had attacked her.

She tried desperately to turn, to see his face, but a dizzying wave of exhaustion washed over her. Her body went limp, and she crumpled to the ground.
