On the Ruins of His Regret I Soar novel Chapter 268

He couldn't see through anyone.

Gabriel took a long drink of the cold water, the chill spreading through him.

The first person Jessica saw when she opened her eyes was Rebecca Jones.

“You’re awake!” Rebecca exclaimed, her face alight with relief. “How are you feeling? Does anything hurt?”

Jessica shook her head, struggling to sit up. Rebecca quickly helped her.

“Lance Smith is such a bastard,” Rebecca fumed. “I can’t believe he would actually kidnap you. I seriously underestimated him.”

Jessica’s head throbbed. “Who rescued me?”

Rebecca’s eyes darted away for a second. “George.”

Jessica swallowed hard, her throat dry. Rebecca handed her a glass of lukewarm water. After taking a sip, she managed to speak. “I thought I saw his face… I figured it was just a dream.”

“Is Lance really that determined to stop the divorce?” Rebecca sighed.

A cold glint entered Jessica’s eyes. “He doesn’t have a choice in the matter.”

Rebecca patted her leg. “The man is certifiable. He’s completely lost it.”

“Where’s George?” Jessica asked.

“A few work calls came in that he couldn’t ignore. He had to leave.”

Jessica nodded.

Knock, knock, knock.

The door opened before Rebecca could get to it. Seeing Gabriel Brown, she scowled. “What are you doing here? Get out. Your presence is only going to make Jessica more upset.”

Gabriel pushed past her and walked straight to the bed.

“You should be saying that to those two bitchs,” Rebecca muttered as he walked out. “They’re the ones who need to take care.”

After he was gone, Rebecca turned to Jessica. “What do you think he meant? Was he trying to warn you about something?”

Jessica pressed her lips together. “Maybe.”

“Do Isabella and Catherine have something on you?” Rebecca wondered aloud.

Just as Jessica was about to consider it, Anthony George returned, pushing the door open and walking in.

“George,” Jessica said, her eyes lighting up.

Anthony walked to her bedside and checked her IV bag.

Rebecca pouted. “I’ve been right here. You think I’d let it run dry?”

“You should get back to the office,” Jessica told her. “I don’t need anyone to stay. It’s not like I can’t move.”
