On the Ruins of His Regret I Soar novel Chapter 270

“More importantly,” Lance continued, his voice heavy with emotion, “my wife and I have a five-year-old daughter. A child that age needs her mother. But now, my wife is obsessed with divorcing me, willing to abandon even her own child. She’s been completely led astray.”

Arthur looked at him. “But I heard the reason your wife wants a divorce is because of your inappropriate relationship with her stepsister.”

Lance gave a slight, dismissive laugh. “Be that as it may, the fact remains that Anthony is living with my wife. Catherine and I are just friends, our relationship is innocent. But even if my wife and Anthony are innocent, no one will believe it when they’ve been living under the same roof for so long.”

On this point, Arthur had to agree, though he gave no indication of it.

Lance, unable to read him, pressed on. “Arthur, I only have one request. My daughter is young; she cannot be without her mother. If Anthony were to step away, my wife would surely return to her family.”

Arthur let out a dry, mocking laugh. Lance heard the scorn in it but pretended not to. “Arthur, I’m begging you, take pity on an innocent child.”

Arthur sighed, leaning back against the sofa. “I heard that Ms. Brown was devoted to you for many years. She married you without hesitation, even knowing you only proposed because of your grandfather’s wishes. How does a woman so loyal suddenly decide to leave you?”

Lance looked down, feigning embarrassment. “Every family has its own problems.”

“First,” Arthur said, his tone final, “they are both adults. I cannot and will not interfere. Second, I suggest you take a long, hard look at yourself.”

“Arthur, I will, but…”

The short series premiere went off without a hitch. Rebecca called Jessica to share the good news.

“I’m getting discharged in a bit,” Jessica said, feeling a rare spark of joy. “Let’s celebrate tonight. I’ll find a place.”

“Sounds good,” Rebecca agreed.

But just as she hung up, the door to her hospital room was pushed open. Two imposing bodyguards in black suits, both well over six feet tall, stepped inside, followed by an elderly man.
