She also knew that if she brought it up directly, Amy would resist.
“You know,” she said casually, “in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Iggy always eats his food all by himself.”
Amy’s ears perked up. “Mom Catherine,” she announced, “I want to feed myself!”
Catherine had no choice but to hand over the spoon. Amy kept her eyes on the screen, but she dutifully ate her meal. One bad habit at a time, Jessica thought. If she tried to correct too many things at once, Amy would feel like she was being attacked.
When she finished, Helen cleared the small table, leaving only the tablet.
“Do you know what kind of dog Iggy is?” Jessica asked.
Amy looked up, her eyes wide with curiosity. “What is he?”
“He’s a Boston Terrier,” Jessica explained. “They’re small and cute, and they have blue eyes.”
“You watch that show too?” Amy asked, delighted.
Jessica smiled. “It’s a show for kids.”
“But you know so much about it.”
“That’s because Mommy has read a lot of books,” Jessica said. “My head is full of knowledge, so I can recognize all sorts of things.”
Amy looked at her with newfound admiration. “Do you know what kind of pig Peppa Pig is?”
His expression hardened back into its usual cool indifference.
“The man we’re meeting is a director at the George Group,” his assistant, Aaron James, explained. “He’s also married into the George family.”
Lance sneered. “Such a massive project, and Mr. George himself can’t even be bothered to show up. What’s he hiding from?”
“No one’s ever seen his face,” Aaron said with a shrug. “He’s a ghost.”
Lance fell silent. The George family had protected their heir with obsessive secrecy. He couldn’t begin to imagine why.
Back at Lakeview Heights, Helen took Amy to the bathroom. Seizing the opportunity, Jessica slipped into Amy’s room to install the spy cam. If Catherine was doing something to turn Amy against her, she was going to get proof.
