**Chapter 51**
“To win over Jasper, you actually shoved me out like I was some sort of escort?! Adam, you are the absolute worst! I despise you!”
Renee’s voice echoed through the air, filled with a mixture of anger and betrayal. But soon enough, her fury fizzled out, leaving her breathless. She crumpled against Jasper, her tears flowing freely as she sobbed uncontrollably, her body shaking with the force of her emotion.
The warmth of her tears mingled with the remnants of her makeup, leaving a streak of color on his shirt. Jasper’s expression darkened, a storm brewing in his eyes. “Renee, take a moment to consider who you’re addressing,” he said, his voice low and tense.
With a grimace, he seized her by the collar, pulling her away from him. The moment felt heavy, charged with unspoken words and frustration. Yet, Renee was too intoxicated to maintain her footing. As soon as he released her, she swayed dangerously and tumbled to the floor, her laughter morphing into a soft whimper.
Jasper’s patience had reached its limit. He made no move to catch her this time.
Bang!
Renee, unable to steady herself, pitched forward as he let go, her head colliding with the wall with a sickening thud. A sharp cry of pain escaped her lips, echoing in the hallway.
“Ouch! It hurts… It hurts so much…” she whimpered, her voice breaking as fresh tears poured down her cheeks.
The ride in the elevator from the lobby to the 29th floor felt agonizingly slow to Jasper, each second stretching out like an eternity. He cast a glance at his now stained shirt, the remnants of the chaotic scene, and rubbed his temple in frustration, feeling the weight of the situation pressing down on him. The sight of Renee, curled up on the floor, her sobs echoing in his ears, pushed him closer to the edge of his composure.
Ding!
Finally, the elevator doors opened, and he seized the opportunity. Jasper bent down, gripping Renee’s arm firmly yet gently, lifting her as the doors slid apart. “Where do you live?” he demanded, his voice tinged with urgency.
Renee shook her head weakly, her eyes clouded with confusion. “I have a headache,” she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper.
Jasper clenched his jaw, frustration bubbling beneath the surface. “Which one is your home?” he pressed, his patience wearing thin.
Once again, she shook her head, her voice rising in desperation. “Home? No… I don’t want to go home. I don’t want to go home!”
His temples throbbed with irritation. Damn it! Why was Luke taking so long to come upstairs?
Feeling trapped, he pulled out his phone and dialed Alison’s number, his heart racing with anticipation.
Ring… Ring… Ring…
The phone rang several times, each tone growing more and more infuriating as silence met his call.
