**Faith Didn’t Survive Time – by Aadi Sharma**
**Chapter 58**
Jasper had always been a notoriously light sleeper, a fact that shaped his entire approach to rest. He could hardly tolerate even the faintest whisper or the most delicate beam of light; thus, his bedroom was forever cloaked in darkness, thanks to the heavy blackout curtains that hung like thick velvet drapes. They created an environment that was almost cave-like, perfect for his sensitive nature.
After quietly shutting the door behind him, Jasper moved through the familiar contours of his room with practiced ease, his feet finding the path to the bed without needing to glance. He lifted the covers and sank into the soft embrace of the mattress, which yielded beneath his weight like a gentle sigh.
However, the sudden shift in weight stirred Renee from her slumber, pulling her from the depths of sleep. Drowsiness still clung to her like a heavy blanket as she squinted into the pitch-black void surrounding her. Her instinct was to assume that the night was still young, so she rolled over, hoping to reclaim the comfort of her dreams.
In her sleepy state, her hand inadvertently brushed against something warm.
Caught in a haze of confusion, Renee’s fingers meandered over the surface, only to realize that it was not just any object; it was something alive, something that felt distinctly like human skin.
“Had enough touching?”
The voice that sliced through the darkness was deep and gravelly, echoing in the silence like thunder on a stormy night. For Renee, it was a jolt that sent her heart racing. She bolted upright in bed, her eyes wide with shock, her pulse quickening in response to the unexpected presence beside her.
“Who are you?” she gasped, her voice a mixture of fear and disbelief.
With a swift motion, Jasper flicked on the bedside lamp. A warm, soft yellow light flooded the room, illuminating the space and revealing the stark reality of the situation.
As the light spilled into the room, Renee’s eyes widened further in disbelief. The sight of Jasper sitting next to her sent a wave of panic crashing over her. Her complexion paled, and she stammered, “M-Mr. Zeller? Why are you in my bed?”
In a rush of instinct, she flung off the thin blanket, her heart racing as she glanced down to confirm her attire. Relief washed over her as she noted that her clothes were still perfectly intact, a small comfort in the midst of her growing anxiety.
Just moments ago, Jasper had settled onto the bed, still feeling the remnants of last night’s festivities buzzing in his veins. But as he registered the situation, a sense of unease washed over him.
Then it dawned on him—this had to be Renee.
Before he could even fully orient himself, he felt her hand press against his chest, a bold move that darkened his expression. His voice was icy and deliberate as he replied, “Take a good look. This is my house.”
