Once She Came Like a Flash novel Chapter 64

**Chapter 64**

“Oh, very well then. I suppose I’ll take my leave first,” Renee announced, her lips curving into a warm smile that belied her anxious heart.

With a graceful motion, she gathered her purse, the soft leather cool against her fingertips, and stepped out into the hallway, leaving the door ajar behind her.

Once she reached her apartment on the 29th floor of Platinum Heights, a familiar sense of solitude enveloped her. The living room door remained open, an invitation to the emptiness that echoed within. She settled into the stillness, her breath steadying as she waited for even the faintest sign of Jasper’s presence.

Days had turned into an agonizing stretch of silence, and after two full days without a word from him, her hope began to wane.

On the third day, the atmosphere felt charged, as if the air itself was holding its breath. It marked the end of the divorce cooling-off period, a threshold she had crossed with both trepidation and resolve.

Renee, accompanied by her dedicated team, including Daniel, arrived at the Nurture Children’s Welfare Center. As they pulled up to the entrance, the scene that unfolded before them was anything but what she had anticipated.

The modest façade of the center was flanked by an array of luxury cars, their polished surfaces glinting in the sunlight. A throng of people bustled about, and amidst them were reporters, heavy cameras slung over their shoulders, capturing the moment with fervor.

Daniel’s brow furrowed in confusion. “Renee, what’s happening here? There are so many people. Should we still go inside?”

“Absolutely,” she replied with unwavering determination. “I spoke with the director over a week ago and arranged this visit. The children are eagerly waiting for us. We can’t let them down.”

With that, Renee pushed the car door open, her heart racing in sync with the excitement that buzzed in the air.

They had arrived with two delivery trucks brimming with supplies and one personal vehicle, all meticulously prepared for today’s visit.

As Renee began directing the unloading of the supplies with practiced efficiency, a voice cut through the noise. “Renee? What are you doing here?”

She turned to find Irene striding toward her, an expression of surprise and displeasure etched across her features.

“You’re here too? What perfect timing! I’ve been hoping to find you,” Renee replied, subtly gesturing to Daniel to continue with his tasks while she approached Irene.

Today, Irene was the epitome of elegance, draped in a black velvet embroidered dress that clung to her form with grace. Her long hair was swept into an immaculate updo, and her makeup was flawless, accentuating her features. A string of pearls adorned her neck, reflecting her status as a high-society matron—poised, radiant, and undeniably formidable.
