Once She Came Like a Flash novel Chapter 91

**Faith Didn’t Survive Time – by Aadi Sharma**
**Chapter 91**

“Absolutely! You hit the nail on the head! Adam is such a complete jerk!” Allson chimed in, her voice tinged with indignation. “As soon as you’re out of this hospital bed, we’re making a beeline to the courthouse to wrap up your divorce. With all this chaos blowing up on social media, there’s no way Adam will want to stay married. Even if he has some lingering feelings, the Graham family will make sure he complies.”

Renee, still nestled under the hospital sheets, nodded slowly, considering her friend’s words. “You’re right. I’m not in terrible shape. I should be able to make it to the courthouse tomorrow.”

“All nonsense! Your leg is still in bad shape,” Alison retorted, her brow furrowing in concern. After a brief pause, she added, “With all the gossip swirling around about you and Adam, it’s no secret what’s happening. I wouldn’t be shocked if there are reporters camping outside the courthouse right now, just waiting to pounce on the latest scoop regarding your divorce.”

“I honestly couldn’t care less about that,” Renee replied, her voice heavy with resignation. “What really weighs on my heart are the kids at the welfare center. They’ve been dragged into this mess for reasons that have nothing to do with them.”

Alison’s expression darkened, her voice low and fierce. “What goes around comes around, Renee. Once the police dig deep enough, Kayla is going to find herself behind bars for a long, long time. Attempted rape? That’s a serious charge, and it could land her a few years, at least. And let’s not even get started on the poisoning and hospitalizations. She could be looking at over ten years. If they can prove she tried to kill you on Seraph Island, she might even face the death penalty. There’s no way she’ll walk free after all this.”

Both women clung to that sliver of hope, but fate had other plans in store for them.

That very night, Renee received the shocking news that Kayla had been released on bail due to her pregnancy. The moment Alison caught wind of it, her composure shattered. In a fit of rage, she flung a glass across the room, the sound of shattering glass echoing like a gunshot in the tense atmosphere.

“Ugh! This is absolutely insane! Why is it that the decent people always seem to suffer while scum like her manages to slip through the cracks?” Alison shouted, her frustration palpable. “Kayla walks free? It’s unbelievable! This is all Adam’s fault! If he had just kept it together, none of this would have happened!”

Renee observed her friend’s frantic pacing, feeling the weight of Alison’s anger. “I suppose we should have seen it coming. Kayla is the golden child of the Spencer family. They’ll go to any lengths to protect her. If she’s not genuinely pregnant, I wouldn’t be surprised if they concoct some fake psychological report to keep her out of trouble,” she said, trying to rationalize the situation.

Even as she spoke, the bitter disappointment settled heavily in her chest.
