Yvonne’s left hand, resting on her lap, tightened into a fist.
In that moment, she couldn’t help but resent Marico a little. He’d promised to keep things low-profile, yet here he was, openly wearing a matching wedding band—a move that had thrown her straight into the line of fire.
But as she regained her composure, Yvonne realized it was Anna who’d stirred up the trouble. Logic prevailed—she had no real reason to be angry at Marico.
“Are you trying to embarrass me, or are you aiming to put Mr. Hamilton on the spot? Or perhaps you’re hoping to humiliate Ms. White instead?” Yvonne didn’t bother defending herself; instead, she turned Anna’s words right back on her.
Anna, previously smug, was caught off guard. She’d spent enough time with Linda to understand that Xenia had zero tolerance for drama, and she’d assumed Yvonne would end up being targeted by Xenia after being made a fool of.
She hadn’t expected Yvonne’s calm counterattack. Anna’s confidence faltered, and she fumbled for words, her expression uneasy.
“I—I just want you to know your place! Stop stirring up rumors and tarnishing Mr. Hamilton’s reputation.” Anna shot a nervous glance at Marico, whose icy stare made her voice tremble.
Yvonne smiled calmly and replied, “How many people in the company wear this ring? Are you suggesting they’re all Mr. Hamilton’s lovers? Did you ever stop to think how disrespectful your assumptions are—to everyone, including Mr. Hamilton himself?”
Marico set his fork down with a sharp clatter. His dark eyes glinted coldly, his expression so severe it sent a chill through the room as he fixed his gaze on Anna.
If she showed even a flicker of panic, the whole room would turn on her.
“So, who actually saw it happen? Why don’t you bring them forward, let’s hear it from them directly.” Yvonne knew Anna had only gotten wind of this from Linda. And there was no way Anna would dare drag Linda into this mess. Yvonne met everyone’s curious, skeptical gazes without flinching. “You’re not just stirring up trouble—you’re slandering me. Mr. Hamilton, if you don’t handle this decisively, by tomorrow everyone will be gossiping that you and I are having an affair. What then?”
She sighed, glancing at Marico with a look of weary resignation.
“Apologize and pack your things. Leave now, or the company will pursue legal action for slander. There are plenty of witnesses here; you’re not walking away from this,” Marico said coldly, his presence as intimidating as a king’s wrath. The air around him seemed to freeze over.
