Oops I Banged the CEO novel Chapter 172

“And what about you?” Marico lowered his voice, the seriousness in his dark eyes unmistakable.

“Me? Of course I like you.” Yvonne nodded quickly, her voice light. “Tall, handsome, accomplished—who wouldn’t?”

Her answer came so fast it almost sounded rehearsed, a touch too breezy to be sincere.

“Mrs. Hamilton, you’re not even trying,” Marico chided, but he didn’t sound annoyed. He simply crossed his arms and stood beside her as she washed her hands, the two of them falling into a comfortable, almost domestic rhythm.

It almost looked like something out of a picture-perfect marriage.

“Mr. Hamilton, are you sure you’re not falling for me?” Yvonne glanced over her shoulder midway through scrubbing her hands, mischief dancing in her eyes.

Marico had been watching her delicate fingers, but at her question, he quickly averted his gaze and gave a dismissive snort. “Someone’s a little full of herself.”

A man like him—at the very top—had never bowed his head to anyone. Yvonne was no exception, not that she’d admit it.

“So that’s how it is. You don’t love me, but you expect me to love you?” Yvonne’s voice softened, barely audible—just for the two of them.

Marico’s expression darkened at her words.

Yvonne, on the other hand, only smiled brighter, utterly unfazed.

Once she’d finished washing up, William led the staff in, carrying out steaming dishes to the dining room table.

Their family dinner officially began.

The meal was lavish, though Yvonne found herself a bit subdued with Jessica present—a guest who made her a little self-conscious.

Throughout dinner, Jessica was attentive to Mrs. Hamilton, fussing over her like the perfect granddaughter-in-law, more so than Yvonne herself.

Mrs. Hamilton, in high spirits, didn’t seem to notice anything amiss.

Yvonne’s face tightened in alarm, wanting to protest. She felt a wave of panic.

If word got out, she’d be doomed.

More and more people were discovering their relationship. It hadn’t gone public yet, but Yvonne doubted they could keep it under wraps much longer.

She had plenty of worries.

“Well, as long as you two have everything sorted, I won’t meddle,” Mrs. Hamilton said with a warm smile. “I’ll head back to the hospital tonight—give you youngsters some space to get closer.”

She was clearly satisfied, her doubts put to rest. She wanted to give them time, and maybe even a great-grandchild to spoil.

“Grandma, why don’t you stay here tonight?” Yvonne blurted, stopping her. If Mrs. Hamilton left, Marico would no doubt settle the week’s score with her, and she wouldn’t even be able to get out of bed tomorrow.

Just the thought made her back ache. She absolutely had to keep Grandma Hamilton around!
