Oops I Banged the CEO novel Chapter 20

He spotted Yvonne standing way off to the side and strode over, reaching out to clamp his hand gently but firmly around her slender neck. Leaning down so close she could feel his breath, he looked her in the eyes. “Funny, you weren’t this shy the other night—throwing yourself at me, tearing at my shirt, running your hands over my abs. Where’s that courage now, hmm?”

Yvonne’s cheeks flared bright red, burning as if she’d caught fire. Her wide, beautiful eyes darted everywhere, thick lashes practically broadcasting her panic.

“Mr. Hamilton, please—keep your distance, we’re in public!” she pleaded, her voice barely above a whisper, fear prickling across her skin.

If anyone saw them like this, she’d be done for. Social media was ruthless these days. And with Marico’s status—he was the sort of man every socialite in the city dreamed of—if this got out, she’d never have a moment’s peace. She couldn’t afford that.

“Yvonne, you’re supposed to be my wife, not a thief sneaking around in the shadows.”

Honestly, he worried that if he dared pull off her mask, she’d faint right there.

Yvonne’s fair face crumpled, her lips twisting in distress as she stared down at her shoes. “I…I know. But I’m scared. I’m just an ordinary person, and you…you’re in a whole different league.”

He’d never understand her situation. If things went south, his life would go on unchanged, but she’d be the target of endless gossip, her privacy shredded for all to see.

Besides, they’d married with nothing but impulse—no real feelings between them. If something went wrong, she couldn’t be sure he’d ever stand up for her.

Every time she thought about it, Yvonne regretted how she’d gotten here. One drunken, reckless night, and she’d made a decision she couldn’t take back. Then, after falling out with her family and having nowhere else to turn, she’d run straight to him and impulsively married him.

Just then, a valet pulled up with their car, opening the door with a flourish and inviting Marico inside.

“I’ll just grab a cab,” Yvonne blurted, turning on her heel to make a quick escape.

“Get in. We’re going to buy you a car you can actually drive.”

“What?” Yvonne blinked, momentarily stunned. Before she could protest, Marico had already opened the passenger door and ushered her in, placing a small, polished wooden box in her lap.

She clutched it protectively, afraid the precious diamond inside might get knocked around.

Marico slid in beside her. “So, what kind of car do you like?”

“No, you really don’t have to buy me one,” Yvonne stammered, caught off guard. “I’m fine with my bike, really…”

“My place is too far from your work. That bike of yours is too slow.” Marico’s dark eyes studied her face, his tone almost sulky.

Yvonne bit her lip, unable to hide a shy smile. No one had ever thought about her needs like this before. The feeling warmed her unexpectedly.

“Come on, just pick something.”
