Yvonne stared at her phone as it rang again. The caller ID made her jump like a startled bird.
“What should I do? What should I do? Nydia and the others must be suspicious already,” she muttered. Yvonne was usually calm, but this was the first time she’d faced something like this, and she had no idea how to handle it.-
Her pretty, innocent face was clouded with worry.
Marico reached over and took the phone from her hand.
“What are you doing?” Yvonne’s face tightened in alarm, and she instinctively tried to pull it back.
“I’ll handle it,” Marico said, reaching for her phone again.
Yvonne hesitated, but the man’s calm and commanding presence made her reluctantly let go.
“Don’t say anything reckless…” she whispered anxiously, her eyes fixed on Marico as he answered the call.
“Hello, this is Marico. I found this phone last night. My assistant will return it to you soon. As for the owner…” Marico’s cool gaze swept over Yvonne’s worried face.
Yvonne’s breath caught in her throat. She stared at Marico, terrified that a single wrong word could ruin everything for her.
Especially when Marico paused, as if considering what to say next. Her whole body tensed, clearly anxious.
She kept shooting him pleading looks—Say something, please!
Of course, Marico saw her distress and awkwardness. He paused on purpose, just to tease her a little.
Seeing her pitiful expression, he allowed a faint smile to touch his lips. His voice was calm and composed: “I don’t know where she is.”
Yvonne finally exhaled, relief flooding through her.
That was close… She’d almost been exposed!
“I’ll deliver your phone to your coworker in a bit,” Marico said, placing her phone next to his on the table.
“Okay, but… when should I go downstairs? What if someone sees me?” Yvonne looked up at him, her big, anxious eyes full of worry.
She felt so guilty she could hardly sit still.
She already had a kind of “dating anxiety,” and now she’d actually slept with her boss. She almost wanted to bang her head against the wall.
Marico lowered his gaze, his dark eyes calm and deep, like the sea under moonlight.
Compared to Yvonne’s worry and nervousness, he remained composed as ever.
