Inside the office, the only sound was the soft rustle of paper as his long, elegant fingers turned each page. There was a certain serenity to it—sunlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting highlights across his sharply defined features and the crisp lines of his tailored suit.
People always said a man was at his most attractive when he was focused on his work.
And right now, Yvonne was seeing a whole new side to Marico—a different kind of allure.
He sat there, tall and commanding, exuding the confident authority of a king at his throne. Just by sitting in that chair, he seemed to radiate control and composure.
Cool, imposing, and dazzlingly charismatic.
“Close the door,” Marico ordered, his tone low and steady, not even glancing up from his work.
Yvonne froze for a second, a bit hesitant. “I… I’m just here to give you my report. Why should I close the door?”
“If you don’t want to, you don’t have to.” Marico finally looked up, his eyes flicking over to her as he set his pen down, as if he’d just finished everything he needed to do.
Yvonne glanced back at the quiet hallway. There was hardly anyone on this floor, but just to be safe, she closed the door behind her.
Suddenly, what had felt like a routine task made her just a little self-conscious.
Still, she pushed those thoughts aside, opened her folder, and shifted smoothly into work mode.
“Mr. Hamilton, regarding—” Yvonne barely started before Marico interrupted her.
“Have you eaten?” Marico rose from his chair, casually undoing the top two buttons of his shirt.
His deep, steady voice was full of mature confidence. Especially in this formal setting, he carried an unmistakable air of authority—someone who was used to being in control.
“I have,” Yvonne answered truthfully, her eyes fixed on her papers, not daring to look around the room.
“Come eat with me anyway.” Marico walked from behind his desk to the small dining table set beside the window.
Yvonne stayed rooted to the spot. “I thought I was here for a meeting.”
Marico’s dark eyes lingered on her, noticing how her fair, thoughtful face had taken on a slightly flustered look. He gave a little half-smile.
