Just as Yvonne was growing more and more anxious, Marico finally spoke up. “Understood.”
“Huh?” Yvonne froze, her delicate face momentarily blank. Her clear eyes fluttered nervously. “Thank you, Mr. Hamilton, for your understanding.”
Clutching her folder tightly, Yvonne couldn’t help but give him a quick bow.
Marico: ?
But before he could say another word, Yvonne bolted, hugging her folder as if it were a lifeline, practically fleeing the office.
She kept her head down, walking so fast she seemed to be running from some wild beast. Only when she ducked into the elevator did she let out a long breath.
That was close!
The way he looked when he was angry—truly terrifying.
Still shaken, Yvonne patted her chest, trying to steady her trembling hands and weak knees.
Thinking back on the past few days, she’d already seen his manipulative, domineering side, and the cold, distant side too. But this—this silent, oppressive intensity—it was a first. She’d been so scared she almost ran straight out the door.
“Whew…” She let out another deep breath, and tried to compose herself as she stepped out of the elevator and headed back to her desk.
“Yvonne, how did it go? Was Mr. Hamilton satisfied?” Grace called as she came up from downstairs, spotting Yvonne as she sat down.
Nydia and a few others had foregone their lunch break, all eyes on Yvonne, curiosity plain on their faces.
After all, a direct report to the CEO wasn’t something you saw every day. Everyone wanted to know what happened.
“Yeah,” Yvonne replied, nodding as she picked up her water cup with a trembling hand and took a sip, still looking pale and rattled.
