“You know, with the way you looked just now, if I didn’t know you already had someone, I’d seriously suspect there’s something going on between you and Mr. Hamilton.” Nydia grinned mischievously, clearly loving the drama.
Yvonne’s heart skipped a beat—she was nearly scared out of her wits.
No way. From now on, she absolutely had to keep her distance from him!
If even someone as sharp as Nydia could sense something was off, she’d have to be more careful.
“You little brat, can’t you see Yvonne’s already terrified, and you’re still teasing her? Next time, you’re reporting to Mr. Hamilton yourself—let’s see how you like getting close to him.” Grace couldn’t help but interject.
Nydia waved her hands in protest. “Please, Grace, have mercy! I’m scared—I wouldn’t dare!”
Yvonne couldn’t help but laugh. “Next time, it’s all yours.”
Honestly, she didn’t want to go either. The idea was just too nerve-wracking.
That afternoon, Linda suddenly sent a new assignment to the department group chat.
They were to plan a grand, elaborate birthday party—everyone needed to submit a detailed proposal.
And the deadline? By noon tomorrow.
Yvonne stared at her phone. This was the first time Linda had spoken up after two days of total silence.
A hint of confusion flickered across her face.
The last deal they’d negotiated had been shot down by Marico, and Owen’s company was under investigation after someone reported them—Yvonne could guess Marico was behind that too, even without asking.
As for Linda, aside from having half her authority transferred to Grace, there hadn’t been any other repercussions.
She remembered overhearing Marico on the phone that morning, mentioning the private room’s security cameras were broken. That must have been related.
Yvonne didn’t dwell on it. After all, it was her own carelessness that got her into trouble, and she was genuinely grateful that he’d stood up for her.
But since Linda was her direct boss, there was no way Yvonne could confront her or make a scene.
“A birthday party? Linda’s definitely using her connections to score some private gigs again—getting us to do the legwork for her.” Nydia was the first to complain, sounding thoroughly annoyed.
This was just more work dumped on them.
