Oops I Banged the CEO novel Chapter 99

When Yvonne saw the shadow under the door finally disappear, she clutched her chest and let out a shaky breath. That had scared her half to death.

She was so rattled her legs nearly gave out, and for a moment, her vision swam.

Just as she started to relax, the doorknob rattled again. Someone was trying to force the door open from the outside.

“Hey! I’ll be out in a minute, just go ahead without me!” Yvonne yelped, instinctively bracing herself against the door and whispering as quietly as she could.

“What? Yvonne, it’s me.” Nydia’s voice called out, and Yvonne’s petite frame jolted in shock.

Honestly, one of these days all this was going to give her a heart attack.

“Oh—oh!” Her mind went blank for a second, then she hurriedly opened the door.

Nydia stood in the hallway, looking utterly confused as she glanced down the silent corridor. “Who were you talking to just now?”

People always found something to do when they were nervous.

Yvonne fiddled with her face mask, smoothed her hair, and forced herself to sound calm. “I was just about to change clothes. I thought someone was about to come in.”

Nydia shot another suspicious look down the empty hallway—there wasn’t a soul in sight.

Seeing her friend’s baffled expression, Yvonne quickly changed the subject. “Weren’t you off to catch up on some gossip? What did you hear?”

“They’re about to cut the cake. Grace said when things wind down, we should all hang out for a bit. So yeah, we’d better get changed.”

“Mm.” Yvonne nodded, replying softly.

Still worried about getting a call from Marico, she put her phone on silent—just in case.

At this crucial moment, she didn’t dare go back out there. The last thing she wanted was to embarrass herself in front of him.

As the birthday party dragged to a close, the relaxed atmosphere from earlier had vanished. Now, most guests were eager to leave.

In that instant, she felt as though her soul had been snared.

Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted Xenia behind her. Without thinking, Yvonne clutched her purse to her chest and briskly speed-walked away, determined to blend into the crowd of departing guests.

Her body language screamed, “We’re not close. Don’t drag me into this.”

She didn’t give Marico the slightest chance to speak, disappearing into the sea of guests.

Marico’s eyes narrowed dangerously as he watched her hasty retreat, frustration simmering beneath the surface.

He turned, coldly fixing Xenia with a glare. “What are you, a rooster? You never stop clucking.”

“You’re still mad at me, aren’t you?” Tears streamed down Xenia’s face, her voice trembling with hurt.

“I couldn’t care less about your mistaken identity or stolen kisses,” Marico replied icily. He pulled out his phone and dialed Yvonne’s number, striding toward the elevator without another glance at Xenia.
