At night, Ariana and Lambert had already returned to their bedroom.
Ariana's eyes were vacant, as if she was deep in thought.
Upon entering, Lambert saw Ariana in this state. He slowly approached and asked in a low voice, "What's wrong?"
Ariana shook her head and said, "Nothing." Then she asked, "Where is our son?"
Lambert replied, "With his grandmother."
Ariana chuckled in slight condemnation, "You are becoming more and more irresponsible as a father. You tell me, how many times have you slept with our son at night since he was born?"
However, Lambert didn't feel ashamed at all. With complete conviction, he asked in return, "Oh? Why should I sleep with him? Ever since I married you, I decided not to sleep with anyone else except you. Not to mention, he's a boy."
"A boy who is less than a year old?" Ariana retorted.
Lambert solemnly nodded, "Yes, for your sake, I am keeping my distance from both men and women."
Ariana was indignant yet found it funny. She said, "Go take your bath already." As she spoke, she climbed onto the bed, crawled under the covers, and started reading a book. Lambert glanced at her hungrily, which made him feel hot. He leaned in closer to Ariana, "What should I do after I finish showering?"
Ariana responded sarcastically, "What else can you do? Sleep."
Lambert's eyes instantly brightened. "It's your words that I hear. I am going right now." And with that, he rushed off to the bathroom. Ariana was left dumbfounded, the echo of his words still ringing in her ears. She was at a loss, not knowing whether to laugh or to be angry.
Her face was slightly red in frustration.
But what overwhelmed her was a shy blush she herself didn't expect. Ariana softly coughed, trying to focus on the book, but she found it impossible to concentrate. She cast a glance towards the bathroom, her cheeks abruptly blushing even more as she couldn't help herself.
Umm...
Actually, when she thought about it, she really hadn't had that in a while.
Recently, Lambert and Ariana have been incredibly busy, they haven't done that certain thing for nearly half a month. Ariana thought Lambert was as exhausted as herself and just wanted to rest.
But thinking about the scene just now, she couldn't help but avoid eye contact momentarily. It seems…she had misunderstood?
Had he been enduring all this time?
At the thought of it, Ariana couldn't help but lift the corner of her lips, her amusement unable to be concealed.
…
At the White family...
The White family home was exceptionally quiet. Jane sat on the other side of the sofa, glancing periodically at Gilbert and Georgia but not uttering a single word.
That's why he never initiated contact with her, even when she did not visit home.
As of today, Ariana had been gone for over six months.
Georgia, observing her distressed husband and the silent Jane, said with urgency, "What do we do? The White Family's company, your life's dedication, we can't just hand it over to someone else!"
Gilbert shook his head in exhaustion, replying in frustration, "I don't want that either. But if we lose this project, there may be a rebellion in the board meeting before long. Our best plan now is to bring Ariana back... As my daughter and primary heir, she can replace me as the chairman. It's just... I don't know if Ariana would be willing to come back."
On hearing these words, Georgia couldn't help but stiffen due to the thoughts of the conversation from half a year ago. She fell silent.
Jane, on the other hand, watched them with hidden resentment. She felt it unfair that Ariana was the only consideration for the company's future. They even claimed that they always treated her as a daughter...
Heh! So they were not sincere about their love for her!
Otherwise, they would not solely consider Ariana, right? Suppressing her anger, Jane looked up at Gilbert and Georgia, saying, "Uncle, aunty, since sister Ariana wants to start her own company, she probably doesn't want to return. Ah, sister Ariana too, you, uncle, are going through such a hard time... And she could actually turn a blind eye."
In Jane's heart, she believed a part of the White Group belonged to her parents.
Perhaps Gilbert spoilt her because they had taken her parents' possessions and felt guilty. Hence, justified whatever she did.
She felt she was just reclaiming what rightfully belonged to her.
