Although Lambert knew his twin sons had been taken out to play by Ariana's close friend Fanny, he never expected they'd be brought back in Damon's arms.
Lambert narrowed his striking phoenix eyes.
Just days before, he and Damon had already exchanged several covert blows over a fiercely contested project—a battle that had grown increasingly intense.
This was precisely why he'd been pulling late nights at the office lately.
Damon was well aware of it too.
Yet both men maintained an unspoken agreement to keep any hostility hidden from Ariana and Fanny. On the surface, they appeared as nothing more than casual business acquaintances, as if no rivalry existed between them at all.
Lambert cast a sidelong glance at Damon and remarked coolly, "Welcome."
Damon gave a slight nod in return, his tone equally detached. "The boys are adorable."
Lambert responded with a curt, "Mhm."
Ariana & Fanny: "..."
The two women exchanged puzzled glances, sensing something off about the exchange—though nothing in the actual words struck them as odd. After a brief moment of confusion, they shrugged it off and resumed their own conversation.
Fanny spoke up first, "The little ones were absolute angels today—not a single tantrum the whole time."
As she spoke, she nuzzled Carson affectionately in her arms.
To an outsider, she might have been mistaken for the boys' real mother.
Carson, utterly unfazed by his godmother's doting, clutched a building block in one chubby hand and a milk bottle in the other.
At that moment, Lucian happened to descend the stairs, led by his etiquette teacher. The teacher first politely reported his academic progress to Ariana and Lambert, offering some praise before taking her leave. Fanny watched the scene with admiration.
She beckoned for Lucian to come over.
The little boy immediately trotted up, his curious eyes fixed on Fanny.
"My dear Ariana," Fanny said with a hint of concern, "isn't it a bit too early for little Lucian to start lessons at such a tender age?"
Though Lucian already carried himself with the solemnity of a proper young gentleman, his sweet, childish voice still melted hearts effortlessly.
"Godmother," Lucian called out to Fanny.
She responded with delighted enthusiasm.
Ariana: "..."
Meanwhile, some unspoken signal seemed to pass between Lambert and Damon's exchanged glances. These two, who were usually locked in cutthroat business rivalry, now stood in an oddly peaceful silence. Once Ariana and Fanny finished their conversation, Ariana led Fanny over to join them.
Fanny couldn't resist teasing Damon.
She gently patted Lucian's head and asked, "Little Luci, do you know who this uncle is?"
Lucian shook his head curiously.
With mock seriousness, Fanny declared, "He's your future godfather."
Damon: "..."
Lucian's mouth fell open in astonishment. Though he was already over two years old, his comprehension was still limited at this age. The boy could only recall having one father and one godfather—often confusing the two as simply "two daddies." But now, another one? Did that mean he had *three* fathers?
However, Lucian was quite well-behaved.
Damon's expression remained indifferent. "Suit yourself." After all, he had already fulfilled his duty as the godfather by offering the gift.
Narrowing his eyes, Lambert found himself disliking Damon more than ever.
And truth be told, he never imagined the day would come when he'd benefit from his own son's influence. The feeling... wasn't exactly pleasant.
---
In the end, after much dawdling, Fanny finally left.
Though not without being practically dragged away by Damon.
Her endless chatter had become unbearable—if left unchecked, she might have lingered until dawn. It wasn’t as if they were parting across continents, requiring a dozen-hour journey just to meet again. Was there really a need for such a drawn-out farewell?
And so, Fanny departed in the car, radiating palpable resentment as she vanished into the distance.
Watching the car disappear in a cloud of dust, Ariana remarked with amusement, "You know, Damon doesn’t seem half bad. Maybe this marriage isn’t such a misguided business arrangement after all. Don’t you think?"
Lambert shrugged casually. "Maybe."
He had no interest in other people's marriages—not even those of Ariana's close friends. The only person who truly captured his attention was himself.
At this thought, Lambert's eyes suddenly gleamed with an idea. Turning to Ariana, he said in a composed tone, "Tell Kevin and Carson to sleep in their own rooms tonight. The nanny can keep an eye on them."
Ariana blinked in confusion. "??"
Lambert met her gaze with unwavering seriousness. "They're old enough. It's time they learned to sleep on their own."
Ariana stared at him, speechless. *Old enough?* she wanted to snap. *They're not even six months old!*
