After Madelyn married Arnold, she became a member of the Stone family.
She had always disliked Ariana, so it was no surprise that she would go out of her way to stir up trouble. The most infuriating thing she did was frequently inviting her close friend Irene to visit her at the Stone Family residence.
And Irene didn’t even try to hide her intentions.
She came every time.
What’s more, she always made sure to leave just as Lambert and Ariana returned, ensuring she’d run into him.
Most women would have been furious by now. After all, few could tolerate their husband’s first love constantly appearing before their eyes. A first love was different from an ex-girlfriend. The term itself carried a special weight, and most wives despised the idea of their husband’s first love lingering around.
Unless, of course, that first love was *herself*.
And that was exactly what Madelyn wanted.
She was deliberately trying to provoke Ariana. If she could make her lose her composure, things would get interesting.
No man could endure his wife constantly doubting him—not even the most devoted husband. And Ariana wasn’t the type to turn a blind eye, unless she didn’t care about Lambert at all. So, an explosive argument between them was inevitable.
Of course, Irene was playing the same game.
Unfortunately for them, they had underestimated Ariana. She remained utterly unshaken, as if none of it bothered her in the slightest.
But the first one to lose control and explode wasn’t Ariana…
It was…
Lambert!
Yes!
Lambert!
Lambert was truly at his wits' end. His icy gaze fell upon Irene, whom he'd encountered yet again today, causing his eyes to narrow slightly. Madelyn stood beside her, smiling as she addressed him, "Lambert, just got back? Haha, I'm just seeing my friend out."
Now that Madelyn was married to his elder brother, it was natural for her to call him by his given name.
But Lambert's attitude was far from welcoming.
Irene, just as before, silently watched him, her eyes carrying a trace of helpless amusement.
They couldn't afford to linger in conversation—otherwise, these encounters would start to seem deliberate. After exchanging a few casual words, Madelyn prepared to escort Irene out. But before they could leave, Lambert's voice stopped them in their tracks.
Both Irene and Madelyn felt their hearts skip a beat.
For Irene, it was a thrill of excitement.
Madelyn, too, was pleased. This was the first time Lambert had ever called out to her on his own.
They turned back, their eyes alight with anticipation. Irene's flickered with faint unease and nervousness, while Madelyn struggled to suppress the tremor in her heart, forcing herself to meet his gaze with the composed demeanor of an elder sister-in-law.
Lambert's expression remained impassive. Then, in a detached tone, he said, "The Stone family's main residence isn't a place for outsiders to come and go as they please, sister-in-law."
Irene froze.
Madelyn blinked in surprise before stammering, "But... Irene isn't an outsider. She's my friend."
Lambert cut her off sharply, his brow furrowing as he spoke with cold precision. "Then you should arrange to meet her elsewhere. The Stone family's main residence isn't meant for frequent visits by outsiders. Surely the Olson family taught you that much, didn't they? Sister-in-law?"
This wasn't something he'd made up on the spot.
The Stone family's ancestral home did indeed have such a rule...
Though in the past. Nowadays, it is rarely enforced.
After leisurely drying her hair with the towel, he asked, "Where’s the hairdryer?"
Ariana hesitated. "Downstairs, maybe…" Then, clearing her throat, she added with a teasing smirk, "Wait—don’t tell me you’re planning to blow-dry my hair? Hmm. Confess—did you do something to upset me? Why else would you be so sweet today, huh?"
Lambert chuckled, the corner of his lips quirking up. "Are you implying I’m usually not sweet?"
Lately, both had been swamped with work.
It had been ages since they’d shared such an intimate moment.
The Lamari Group was in the critical phase of going public, and Lambert was gradually taking over all authority from the family patriarch. Needless to say, his schedule was packed. Ariana, though slightly less busy, spent most of her free time with their three children.
So, moments like this—just the two of them—had become rare.
With a faint smile, Lambert glanced at the laptop in Ariana’s hands. "Gaming?" If he wasn’t mistaken, it was Lamari’s upcoming open-beta title.
Ariana hummed distractedly in response.
After watching for a while, Lambert’s interest piqued. "Want me to join you?"
Ariana shot him a look of disdain, her lips curling. "Nah. You’re terrible at this."
Lambert: "…"
Before he could retort, she added, "Stick to your Candy Crush, will you?"
Lambert: "…"
*Heh.*
Seemed like it was time to remind her who wore the pants in this marriage.
