Thus, the CEO, who had been snubbed by his wife, simply took the laptop from her and proceeded to log into a game with her character.
Perhaps out of sheer frustration—
Lambert played with ruthless precision, utterly crushing his opponents until they were on the verge of quitting. His teammates flooded the chat with "666" and pleas like "Carry us, boss!"—effectively lifting his dampened spirits in an instant. Setting the laptop aside, he cast a sidelong glance at Ariana, his expression practically screaming, 'See how amazing your husband is?'
Ariana: "..."
Though slightly amused, she couldn’t deny her surprise.
Blinking, she asked, "Since when have you played this game?"
Lambert rose casually. "Never."
Ariana didn’t buy it. How could someone play so well without any experience? She had only just started playing herself—after all, it was their company’s game, and she’d picked it up out of curiosity to better understand it. It was a horror-survival game.
Seven survivors versus two hunters.
Escaping through the exit within the time limit meant victory.
This was just the first title. Another in development was a post-apocalyptic zombie survival game. But given the heavy restrictions required for the latter, it remained in closed beta, with public release still a long way off.
Ariana had set a goal for herself this year: to launch both games and find ways to enhance their replay value.
The gaming industry was booming right now.
Moreover, the majority of players were adults who were more than willing to spend money to chase a sense of superiority in the virtual world. As a result, Ariana held high hopes for both games.
She glanced at Lambert and said, "This game will officially launch after the public beta."
Lambert nodded slightly. "Mhm."
Ariana continued, her expression troubled. "I just don’t know how it’ll perform after release."
The game had taken the design team a full two years to develop.
Naturally, Lamari had invested heavily in it—both financially and otherwise. If the game flopped, all that effort would truly be for nothing.
Noticing Ariana’s furrowed brow, Lambert allowed a faint smile to curl his lips. "Don’t worry. The game should do well."
He had actually played it before, during the closed beta.
As the company’s CEO, it was only natural for him to review it firsthand. He had to experience it himself to gauge its potential. And truth be told, the game was genuinely engaging. Even someone with his ironclad self-control couldn’t resist playing a couple of rounds.
Though, admittedly, it was just a couple.
Ariana shrugged, her eyes fixed on the game interface on her screen. 'Let’s hope so,' she thought.
...
Then, she dove back into the game.
But most of her attempts ended in failure, and after a while, her frustration began to simmer.
Lambert had been secretly keeping an eye on Ariana's situation.
Noticing her predicament, the corners of his lips curled up imperceptibly. He then casually glanced over, raising an eyebrow slightly before asking, "Need me to take over?"
At that moment, Ariana was being relentlessly berated by her teammates for playing terribly. Normally, she would have snapped back, but seeing how she had indeed messed up, she stayed silent, swallowing her frustration.
