Although Lambert was highly intelligent, his mind had never wandered into certain possibilities, so he remained oblivious to the maid's hidden agenda. He simply assumed she was relaying information in good faith.
With a slight nod to acknowledge her words, he turned and headed upstairs without another thought.
Sheryl watched Lambert's retreating figure in uneasy silence, her heart fluttering with uncertainty. She couldn't decipher whether his expression hinted at anger or indifference.
Moreover...
Logically speaking, shouldn't he have gone to see his son first? Witnessing the severity of his injuries would surely fuel his resentment toward Ariana. Yet Lambert... Why did he head straight for the bedroom? Could he already be furious, storming upstairs to confront her?
At this thought, Sheryl's eyes gleamed with barely suppressed excitement.
...
Lambert neither knew nor cared what the housemaid was thinking. His focus was solely on reaching the bedroom, her words already fading from his mind.
Pushing the door open gently, he stepped inside, his movements quiet as he approached the inner chamber.
The moment he entered, his gaze landed on Ariana, utterly absorbed in playing her favorite hero in the game, clearly aiming to break her own record.
A faint smile tugged at the corners of his lips.
In his mind, he mused—she'd never manage it in this lifetime.
His eyes glimmered with amusement as he cleared his throat softly. Then, leaning slightly closer behind her, he remarked in a low voice, "That's not how you use his skill."
Completely engrossed in her activity, Ariana didn't even stop to wonder where the sudden voice had come from.
Instinctively, she blurted out, "I think this works just fine!"
The moment the words left her mouth, she froze. Slowly, she turned her head—and sure enough, standing right behind her was Lambert, that infuriating smirk playing on his lips.
Ariana blinked in surprise before her eyes widened in disbelief. "You're back already?" she exclaimed. "I thought you weren't returning until tomorrow!" She had planned to pull an all-nighter, determined to sharpen her skills before he got home.
Lambert seemed to read her mind.
With a dismissive shrug, he said, "Don't bother. Even if I came back two days later, you still wouldn't stand a chance against me."
Ariana scoffed. "Yeah, right."
He smirked. "Don't believe me? Then play a ranked match right now."
She shot him a deadpan look. "Maybe later."
But Lambert wasn't letting her off the hook. His grin widened mischievously. "Oh, come on. Do it now." He knew exactly how protective she was of her rank—and how painfully aware she was that one match would inevitably end in disaster. That was precisely why he was teasing her.
Ariana's eye twitched in irritation before she plopped down in her seat, pointedly ignoring him.
Lambert burst into laughter, his face alight with amusement.
Raising an eyebrow, he remarked, "The maid told me you were busy. Hah. *Very* busy, I see."
Ariana rolled her eyes and stubbornly kept her mouth shut.
Lambert knew he was about to cross the line—if he kept teasing Ariana, she’d really get mad. So he stopped, flashing her a playful grin instead. "Let me show you how to play," he said, settling down to game with his wife. His assistant and team would never believe their CEO had rushed home just to play video games with his spouse.
If they found out, they’d probably lose their minds.
