Jerold's early release was a long story.
His role as Arnold's strategist had come about by sheer coincidence. But as long as the outcome served his purpose, Jerold couldn’t care less about the process.
Arnold, meanwhile, was still wrestling with unease.
Though he had been the one to execute the plan, remnants of past trauma lingered. Old Mr. Stone and Lambert had once ruthlessly crushed the main branch of the family, and even now—despite no one suspecting his involvement—his nerves were frayed with tension and exhilaration.
He turned to Jerold, his voice edged with urgency. "Lambert will dig to the bottom of this. While he’s busy investigating, we can find a way to eliminate him!"
One thing was certain—he would never allow the trail to lead back to him.
And then to Old Mr. Stone.
Succeed or die trying. Arnold refused to return to those pitiful days of being mocked and scorned.
A faint trace of disdain flickered in Jerold’s eyes.
He had little respect for Arnold.
But for now, they shared a common enemy—and the enemy of his enemy was, naturally, an ally. His tone was cool as he replied, "Unlikely. After what happened to Ariana and Allison, do you really think Lambert won’t be on high alert?" Arnold was being naive.
Did he honestly believe Lambert would be an easy target?
If it had been just Stefan, perhaps he and Allison would both be dead by now.
But Arnold had insisted on dragging Lambert and his wife into the mess—unfortunately.
The stakes were getting higher.
Fine. Without Arnold's support, it would be difficult for Jerold to make a move against Stefan and his wife anyway. As for taking down Lambert and his wife along the way, Jerold had no objections.
But Arnold wasn’t satisfied with Jerold’s answer.
Frowning, he snapped, "What do you mean? Are you saying we back off now? After only dealing with Lambert’s wife?"
Sure, it would make Lambert suffer.
But Arnold wouldn’t gain any real benefit from it!
What good would Ariana’s misfortune do him?
Arnold was instantly furious.
Jerold remained impassive. "Not backing off—just waiting for the right moment. The timing isn’t ideal now." Given how sharp Lambert was, he’d probably figure things out soon. If they recklessly pushed forward now, they’d just be handing themselves over on a silver platter.
What difference would that make from suicide?
Even if the end result would likely be the same, Jerold still preferred to use this brief window to find a way to eliminate Stefan.
If luck was on his side, maybe he could take Lambert down too. If not, well—Jerold couldn’t care less.
His obsession was Stefan alone.
Why was it that they shared the same father, yet Stefan inherited the Morris Corporation while he ended up in prison? Even after getting out, he had to live like a fugitive. Rather than endure this forever, he’d drag Stefan down to hell with him!
Arnold had no idea what was going through Jerold’s mind.
He assumed Jerold would at least act in his own self-interest—if Lambert ever found out, they were both in this together, with no way out.
So he didn’t doubt Jerold’s words.
But how could he have known?
Jerold couldn’t care less about whether Lambert sought revenge or not. Only one thought consumed his mind:
