Ariana struggled to get up from the bed. She looked around the room and realized she was the only one there.
The door was tightly shut, even the windows were all closed. It was already bright outside.
She slightly knitted her brows, unsure of what the situation was outside.
Ariana could somewhat guess why Old Mr. Stone had brought her here, but she was still surprised. After all, both their companies were cooperating on an important project. She was shocked that Old Mr. Stone would risk this project only to make Lambert marry Beverly.
She hopped out of bed to take a glance outside the window. The moment her feet touched the ground, she felt her body go limp and she slumped onto the floor.
Ariana held onto the edge of the bed and pushed herself up and laboriously stood to walk towards the window.
She looked outside and noticed that this room was not too high, probably on the third floor. Below the window was a beautiful rock garden with a fantastic view. However, it wasn't good for her because the rocks were oddly shaped. Even if she wanted to jump down, she might end up with broken arms and legs.
At that moment, the sound of the door opening came from outside. Ariana narrowed her eyes and quickly returned to the bed, pretending to sleep again.
A maid walked in carrying something. Seeing Ariana still asleep, she seemed helpless and turned to her companion, asking, "She's still not awake, what should we do?"
The other maid was also surprised, "That's strange, the doctor said she would wake up after the effects of the medicine wore off."
The maid looked at Ariana lying on the bed with worry, "Maybe we should call the doctor."
"I'll go, then." The other maid handed over the items she was holding and rushed out.
The maid walked over to Ariana, intending to try and wake her, but Ariana slowly opened her eyes.
The maid was startled, "You're awake?"
Ariana looked at the door which was still open. Before she could react, the maid noticed and rushed to close it, blocking her way and saying, "Sir said that you're not allowed to go out yet!"
Lying on the bed, Ariana looked speechless. She felt so weak now that even if she could get out of this room, she wouldn't get far.
With a shaky voice, she asked, "How long was I unconscious?"
The maid paused. Seeing that Ariana didn't resist much, she eased up and replied, "It's already noon."
Ariana slightly closed her eyes, thinking that her disappearance at the banquet yesterday evening around 7 o'clock must have been noticed by now.
The sudden incident would surely send her parents into a panic. As for Lambert... She would never allow it if he planned to marry Beverly to save her,
Ariana caught sight of the maid's cell phone in the side pocket of her skirt. Her eyes darkened, and pretending to be uncomfortable, she held her stomach and looked eagerly at the lunch the maid was holding. She said, "I'm hungry."
Seeing this, the maid placed the lunch on a small table and brought it to her.
Ariana hurriedly picked up the spoon but found that her hand was still weak from the lingering effects of the drugs. Her hands trembled badly due to the lack of strength.
She looked at the maid with a troubled expression, "I don't have any strength in my body right now..."
The maid looked distressed and picked up the bowl to feed her.
Looking at the innocent and kind maid in front of her, Ariana strangely felt a sense of guilt for what she was about to do... But she had to do it.
While the maid was feeding her, Ariana swiftly took her cell phone and hid it.
Feeling guilty, Ariana had a distracted meal, unaware that the maid, who was tricked, thought Ariana was having trouble eating and showed sympathy.
Old Mr. Stone had a temper. Whenever his anger flared, it would affect everyone around him.
On the other hand, Lambert was the kindest person in the household towards the servants. So when the young maid learned that Ariana was the person Lambert liked, she felt a bit sorry for her.
