News that Aubrey had deceived the world spread wildly online. Some claimed with certainty that the antibody Aubrey provided had only temporarily suppressed the Kajit virus, not cured anyone. That was why someone had died during the observation period, and the remaining werewolves were likely hanging by a thread.
Others fanned the flames, steering public opinion.
“It’s terrifying. If the Alpha King hadn’t been wise enough to keep those who ‘recovered‘ under observation for a few more days, they would have definitely caused a new outbreak!”
“This omega is despicable! To stall for time, she actually lied to us that she’d developed a new antibody that could crack the Kajit virus. I knew it! The Kajit virus is so terrifying, how could a low–status omega like her possibly crack it, and with such a high survival rate? It was all a lie!”
“Someone has already died. I’m afraid the others won’t live long either. A despicable woman like this should be executed! Our Alpha King even gave her three days. She’s probably run off and hidden somewhere by now!”
Many people suspected Aubrey was in hiding. After all, she hadn’t been heard from in three days. The patients‘ families were worried about this, so they braved the night to go to the Miguel family’s old residence, demanding the Miguel family hand Aubrey over immediately! They wouldn’t trust them anymore. They were all a bunch of liars!
Amidst the crowd’s fury, Aubrey heard the commotion even from the underground lab.
“It’s past three in the morning. Why is it so noisy outside?”
Xavier knew what was happening but didn’t dare tell her, so he lied, “It’s nothing. The most important thing is to focus on your work. How is it going?”
Aubrey looked at the time. “There are still over two hours left. We have time.”
Xavier was miserable but couldn’t say why. They very likely didn’t have two hours! The crowd, agitated and provoked by instigators, was gathering outside like a frenzied mob. If she wasn’t faster, who knew what crazy things those beta and gamma werewolves might do?
Aubrey saw something was wrong with his expression and said, “Just tell me what happened. I can handle it.”
Xavier saw her expression was grim and she clearly wasn’t bluffing. Besides, it was getting louder outside; it was impossible to hide it any longer. He had to tell her.

Aubrey nodded. “Who died, and what was the cause of death?”
Xavier replied, “Suffocation. But there are too many things that could cause that.”
Aubrey lowered her head and said no more.
Xavier was helping, but he was distracted. Seeing Aubrey remain methodical, her pace having neither quickened nor slowed, he finally couldn’t help but say:
“Kid, aren’t you worried? People outside are pressuring the Alpha to hand you over. Some are even talking about burning you alive!”
“What’s the use in worrying?” Aubrey took a reagent tube from an equally calm John, slowly pouring it into a different colored solution, waiting for the reaction.
“Didn’t you say Alpha Henry is back and handling it?”
