477 A Life for a Life
Third–Person POV
“It’s said that this acupuncture technique was developed by an ancestor of the Mary family. His wife was dying, so to keep her, he came up with this idea. He didn’t extend her life all at once, but day by day. In the end, they died in the same year, same month, and on the same day…”
Jax shivered. “I didn’t want to exchange my life for someone else’s, so I didn’t learn it. As for Aubrey… she’s still young, she probably hasn’t learned it to that level yet. But, Alpha, you must not speak of this to anyone. If this gets out, it could bring disaster upon her!”
Alpha Henry was surprised that Jax knew everything. And… he had been smart enough to escape that fate.
He also hadn’t realized that Aubrey’s medical talent was so heaven–defying that she had long ago reached a level her grandfather had never achieved in his entire life.
“I understand.” Alpha Henry nodded, then looked at Aubrey.
Back then, Aubrey had given him acupuncture every three days. And every time he asked, she only said it was draining, but not a major harm. If they hadn’t developed the Kajit virus antidote, did that mean… if she had continued, they would have died in the same year, same month, and on the same day?
His heart gradually warmed. She had never told him any of this.
It wasn’t just this. Aubrey had done so many things, but she told him very little. She calmly and composedly gave everything for him, seeming so indifferent that it always made him feel it wasn’t enough. Thinking back on it now, he was such a bastard.
He loved Aubrey with passion, while Aubrey loved him with depth. He couldn’t distinguish who loved more. He only knew that he was desperate for her to wake up so he could whisper “I love you” in her ear ten thousand times.
Wake up soon, Aubrey!
After Jax left, Alpha Henry lifted Aubrey, letting her rest her head on his lap, and began to comb her hair.
As he combed, the corners of his mouth turned up involuntarily.
“You’re such a dishonest little thing. Did you tie your life to mine when I wasn’t looking?”
He felt both sweet and a little pained.
It seemed it had always been this way. Before her rebirth, she was devoted to him. After her rebirth, although she was harsh to him on the surface, in reality, every time a major incident happened, she was always, always by his side.
When the flames of war were raging, he was at the front fighting the enemy, and she was at the back, saving the wounded.
When he was infected, she faced the doubts from all sides with him.
Even if she always wore a calm and indifferent expression.

But everything she did was to help him, and to save him.
She faced danger for him; she held on for him.
