Helena stormed back to the Frost residence, her high heels clicking angrily against the floor.
She hurled her Hermes bag onto the couch. "Annie's a bitch! How dare she humiliate me in public now that she's all grown up and acting tough!"
The living room was empty.
On the second floor, Sean was in his study reviewing the final prep for tomorrow's surgery. The donor had arrived in Jynston, and Cecilia would receive her bone marrow transplant tomorrow.
If all went well, she'd finally be free from years of pain.
Listening to Helena's shrill shouting below, he frowned slightly.
When Sean showed no reaction for a long time, Helena's fury flared. She stomped upstairs before shoving the study door open. She screamed, "Sean! Did you not hear me?"
Sean was forced to lift his head from a pile of complex medical data. A flicker of irritation crossed his face. "Annie and I are over."
He assumed Helena was still mad about the called-off engagement.
"Over? You fool!" Helena shrieked and jabbed a finger in his face with bitter disappointment. "The Stewards are loaded! Marrying Annie will put you on equal footing with Easton in the Frost family!
"I spent my whole life with your dad, finally gave birth to a promising son like you, and suffered through that first wife of his before she died. Only then did I become Mrs. Frost.
"But your dad had a short life and died in that car crash, leaving us with nothing but some pathetic shares! The entire company went to his precious eldest son from his first wife!
"If you don't marry Annie, how are you supposed to compete with Easton? How will your grandpa ever look at you the same?"
Sean's sharp brows furrowed deeper as he could barely contain the brimming annoyance in his eyes.
He'd heard the same words since he was a kid and never cared about who controlled the company or held power in the Frost family. Cecilia was the only person who mattered to him.
His stubborn indifference brought a stabbing pain to Helena's chest, but there was nothing she could do.
On second thought, Cecilia came from an ordinary family and was simple and unassuming, so she'd certainly be easier to control than Annie.
