Reborn to Marry My Best Friend's Uncle novel Chapter 37

Annie said, "It's late. You still have work tomorrow, so go home and get some rest."

Christian paused what he was doing and turned around. "What about you, dear?"

Annie had grown numb to the way he kept calling her "dear". Though her heart still skipped a beat every time, at least she no longer gave it away in her expression.

"I called Ms. Hudson and applied for leave," she said with a small nod. Given Irene's condition, there was no way she could focus on work.

At that, Christian lifted his hand and gently ruffled her hair. Then, he murmured in a low voice, "Alright. Call me anytime if you need anything."

Annie's heart warmed. It'd been so long since she'd genuinely felt cared for.

She nodded and walked him to the door. "Drive safe."

Christian gave her a last, deep look before turning away.

It was only when his tall silhouette disappeared at the end of the hallway that she finally shifted her gaze away. Leaning against the cold door, she let out a long breath.

She was totally oblivious to the fact that just as she closed the door, Irene, who should have been asleep, slowly opened her eyes.

Christian seemed like a fine-looking young man, far better than the sweet-talking Sean by a hundred times over. But when did Annie get to know him?

Late at night, the ward door was suddenly shoved open from the outside.

Startled, Annie jolted upright from the couch and eyed the door with alarm.

A man in flamboyant clothes charged in, panting heavily as he panickedly straightened his ridiculous outfit. He muttered under his breath, "Damn. I'm three hours late, and he's gonna kill me. It's not my fault that the flight was delayed!"
