Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 1022

After years by Mr. Williams’s side, he’d never seen him like this before. There was something in his eyes now, a cold, dangerous anger that seemed ready to destroy anything in its path. Thinking back, he realized this chill had settled over Mr. Williams since last night. The only thing that kept it at bay was Ms. Davis’s uncertain condition. He’d had to focus on her, putting his fury on hold. Now that she was safe, nothing was holding him back.

Dennis Williams’s anger was at its breaking point. The woman he treasured most had been hurt right under his nose. He couldn’t forgive himself for letting it happen. As for those who’d harmed Camila Davis, forgiveness wasn’t even a question.

His words came out sharp and icy as he turned to Aaron. “Go deal with the Smith family.”

There was no need for more detail. It was obvious that no one would be spared. First on the list was the one who started it all: Barbara Jones.

Barbara was always so sure of herself, acting untouchable as the matriarch of the Smith family. She had her husband’s power, her own family’s backing, and she flaunted it every chance she got. The plan was simple—take away everything she was proud of and watch her fall.

Aaron understood without needing another word. He nodded and left right away.

Meanwhile, Barbara Jones had no idea what was coming for her. She woke up that morning feeling more rested than she had in days, thinking everything was finally under control. But the moment she got up, she noticed the staff running around the house in a panic. Annoyed, she stopped one of the maids. “What’s with all this fuss? How do you expect to do your jobs like this?”

The maid hesitated, clearly scared, but couldn’t hide the truth any longer. “Mrs. Smith, something’s wrong. Lillian is gone!”

Barbara’s eyes widened. “Gone? How could she be gone?” She saw the other maids searching the house, and a wave of anxiety washed over her. She rushed to find Mason Smith, her husband, to tell him what happened.

Mason was just as shaken, and he immediately called everyone in the house to help look. Dozens of people searched the entire estate over and over, but there was no sign of Lillian anywhere. The house was huge, but it was like she had vanished into thin air. If Barbara hadn’t brought the girl home herself the day before, she would have doubted Lillian had ever been there.

Panic rising, she grabbed a nanny and lashed out. “What do I even pay you for? Can’t even keep track of a child! What good are you to the Smith family?”

The nanny looked terrified, her voice trembling. “Mrs. Smith, I don’t know what happened. Lillian was asleep in her room last night. You saw her yourself…”
