Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 1023

Before she could pin everything on Camila Davis, Jordan cut her off, his anger barely contained. “I don’t need you pulling these shady moves. I’ve already decided to let go. I’m not going to keep pushing Camila. She doesn’t owe the Smith family anything. She’s her own person, not something you can just twist around for your own benefit.”

The damage was already done. No amount of arguing could change that. Jordan took a slow, steady breath, forcing himself to calm down. “Don’t let this happen again. I won’t protect you next time. And what you did with the drugs? That won’t stay hidden. The guy from Cabinda won’t just let this slide. You’d better start behaving.”

He couldn’t make Camila stay, and there was no way he could follow her to Cabinda. All he could do was let it go for now.

“Dad, keep an eye on the Smith Group for me. I’m heading overseas to meet with the specialists. If anything big comes up, don’t make decisions on your own. Call me right away.”

“Alright,” Mason Smith said. He might not fully agree with his son’s choices, but he respected Jordan’s determination and didn’t try to stop him.

Barbara started to panic. “Jordan, are you really going through with that surgery? Have you thought about what happens if something goes wrong?” If the surgery failed, he might never walk again.

Jordan’s answer was quiet but firm. “Even if it doesn’t work, I’ll accept it. If I have to spend my life in this chair, it’s what I deserve. This is my consequence.”

He knew his first injury had been a warning, a sign he ignored. He’d had a shot at recovery, a chance to live like everyone else, but he’d wasted it. He didn’t blame anyone but himself.

Watching her son leave the estate, Barbara dropped onto the sofa, feeling completely defeated. In her mind, she saw nothing but disaster. She nearly lost control, muttering, “This is all Camila Davis’s fault. If she wasn’t so ungrateful, none of this would have happened. I was ready to let her into our family, what more could she possibly want?”

Her angry words echoed around the hall. No one dared get involved. The servants slipped away, not wanting to be anywhere near her fury.

Mason’s patience snapped. “Enough already. All you ever do is stir up trouble.”
