Dennis Williams hesitated, his expression shifting just for a moment. Instead of giving Camila Davis the straight answer she expected, he said, “Let me check with Master first. If it’s too much for you, it’s okay if you don’t remember.”
All he wanted was for Camila to hurt a little less.
Right then, Mr. Williams walked into the room.
He heard Dennis and looked puzzled. “What do you need to ask me?”
Dennis turned to him, explaining, “Camila wants to know about our past and what’s going on with the family. I’m worried that telling her everything right now might be too much and could affect her recovery.”
Mr. Williams paused for a couple of seconds, considering. Then he shook his head. “I’m honestly not sure, but we can give it a try.”
Camila’s eyes sparkled with hope as she looked at Dennis, waiting for him to say something more.
But Mr. Williams jumped in first, his voice calm and steady. “This is your husband,” he said, nodding toward Dennis. “You two have a daughter. Her name is Lillian.”
Camila stared at him, completely stunned. Mr. Williams pointed at Dennis, making it clear he meant what he said.
Then he gestured at himself. “I’m your master. You grew up with me, learning medicine by my side. Your parents are both teachers, but they’re retired now. While you work at the research institute, they help you take care of Lillian.”
As he finished, Dennis, Melissa George, and Jerry Davis all exchanged surprised looks.
“Is it really okay to spell it out like that?” Melissa whispered to her husband.
Jerry just shrugged. He didn’t know either.
Mr. Williams didn’t seem bothered at all. “What’s the problem? I haven’t said anything wrong.”
He shot Dennis a look, lowering his voice. “What, you’re not planning on marrying Camila?”
Dennis blinked, caught off guard. “No, it’s not that,” he said quickly.
Things just hadn’t moved along that fast before. But in his heart, Dennis always knew Camila Davis would be his wife.
