Larry’s expression turned cold in an instant. “Don’t ever let me hear you say something like that again. How could the Adams family be shameless enough to pin their own dirty deeds on the Lanes?”

If the Adams family hadn’t acted so disgracefully, he never would have lost contact with his grandparents for all those years because of a stupid misunderstanding.

Mr. Adams looked confused. “What are you talking about? What do you mean, blame? I’m just telling the truth.”

A wave of anger surged through Larry. He glared at Mr. Adams. “Back then, my grandparents sent my aunt to pick me up. She waited outside the Adams house for a whole day. But your family refused to let me go. Instead, you sent someone to tell them that I wanted to stay because I loved the rich life here, that I thought the Lanes weren’t good enough for me. You used that as an excuse to drive my real family away. And then you covered it up, telling me it was the Lanes who couldn’t accept me because I had Adams blood. Don’t tell me you didn’t know.”

Mr. Adams stared at him, stunned. He really hadn’t known. Sure, over the years he’d favored his other grandson, but he had never imagined something so cruel had happened. It didn’t take him long to guess who was behind it. Most likely his own son and daughter-in-law.

Now, with all this laid out in front of him, there was nothing he could say. He felt a deep bitterness settle in his heart. Maybe this really was karma. Maybe every bit of pain was the Adams family’s own doing. And now, his grandson had lost all trust in him. All that was left was resentment.

Mr. Adams accepted this quietly. There was no point trying to defend himself.

He finally spoke, his voice low and tired. “I didn’t come here today to talk about the Lanes. I’m here because of the Adams Group.”

Larry just looked at him, eyes empty and cold.
