Once Jordan got into the car, he turned to Nathan. “Did you find anything about what I asked you this afternoon?”
Nathan handed over a folder. “Lucas gave Ms. Davis a drug that’s officially banned. The authorities are cracking down hard. Everyone involved is getting arrested. The reason it’s such a big deal is because it’s tied to Professor Keri, that notorious scientist. I’ve put all the information together for you to look over.”
Jordan’s face grew serious as he flipped through the pages. Nathan’s research was thorough. For the first time, Jordan realized just how dangerous the drug was that Lucas had given Camila. He remembered the way she looked when it hit her and felt a chill run down his spine.
So many days had gone by and he hadn’t reached out to her. Was she okay?
Worry gnawed at him and he pulled out his phone, dialing Camila’s number right away. No surprise—he was still blocked. He tried a different number and called her parents instead. This time, someone actually answered, but as soon as he spoke, Melissa George recognized his voice. She hung up before he could get a single word out.
Feeling helpless, he remembered Walter Wilson was still in Cabinda. Walter probably knew more about Camila’s situation, so Jordan tried his luck there.
Walter sounded annoyed the moment he picked up. When he realized Jordan was calling about Camila, he actually laughed. “You really think I’d tell you anything about Camila? Jordan, if you’re going to let go, then let go for real. Stop dragging this out. It’s embarrassing.”
He used to dislike Jordan privately, but in business, he’d respected him as a rival. Now, after everything, Walter only felt contempt.
