Neither BlackScorpion nor SilverWolf made another move. Both of them just stood there, chests tight with frustration and bitterness. They’d always known a day might come when Red Spider would be finished. Maybe a job would go sideways and one of them would get taken out, or maybe a rival gang would come after them. They’d even imagined the cops busting down their doors. But no matter how it ended, they always thought they’d at least put up a fight, go down swinging.
But now, staring down the barrels of the military’s guns, they didn’t even have a chance to fight back. The whole thing felt unreal, like a nightmare they couldn’t wake up from. And the craziest part? It was all because of RedFox.
BlackScorpion could barely keep from cursing out loud. Ever since they started Red Spider, the three of them had managed their own stuff, kept everything running smooth. They’d never had a disaster like this. Now, after all these years, it was over. Just like that.
Everyone could see BlackScorpion was in a foul mood, especially the two men who’d been with him the longest. RedFox couldn’t even meet his eyes, his voice small and shaky. “Boss, SilverWolf…”
BlackScorpion just kept quiet. SilverWolf glanced at him but didn’t say anything either.
RedFox’s eyes filled with tears. “I just wanted to fix my leg. I never thought it would end up like this for Red Spider. I’m sorry. I let you down, and I let all the brothers down.”
He meant it. BlackScorpion and SilverWolf both heard the regret in his voice, but their faces twisted with frustration. They both wanted to say, “Your leg got busted because you overreached, didn’t it? And now, you’ve dragged all of us down with you, straight to hell.”
BlackScorpion was always the hot-headed one. He was furious, ready to punch something, but his last bit of common sense told him that if he tried anything, the soldiers wouldn’t hesitate to shoot. So, he just turned away, not wanting to look at RedFox at all.
SilverWolf, on the other hand, just let out a long sigh. He patted BlackScorpion on the shoulder. “Maybe this is just how things are supposed to end for us. Honestly, I can accept it. We’ve lived a long time. We’ve had enough.”
He looked up at RedFox, his voice softer. “RedFox, I always thought you were kind of an idiot. You wanted to be a hitman, but you still tried to stick to your own rules. Assassins are supposed to be ruthless. You’re not supposed to care if it’s a man or a woman, but you always went easy on women. I told you, one day you’d trip up because of that. Looks like I was right.”
He hesitated, then went on. “Still, maybe this is okay. Ms. Davis will fix your leg. You’ll have to go on by yourself from here. We can’t be there for you anymore. We were brothers, and I hope you won’t be so clueless in the future.”
RedFox went quiet, not knowing what to say. If it wasn’t for him, BlackScorpion and SilverWolf wouldn’t be in this mess. Especially BlackScorpion, who had put everything into building Red Spider. Now, because of him, it was all ruined.
RedFox looked at BlackScorpion, eyes swimming with tears, just a breath away from breaking down. BlackScorpion turned to look at him and just rolled his eyes. He wanted to stay silent, but in the end, he couldn’t hold it in.
“Quit crying like a baby and get out of here! You’re a total disaster. If I’d known you’d be this much trouble, I’d never have let you join us! Maybe then I’d still have a few years left!”
