Back in the room, Camila headed straight for the bathroom. She hadn’t been treated like the other prisoners, thanks to her medical skills, but that didn’t mean comfort. She hadn’t been able to wash up in days and could feel the grime clinging to her skin.
Dennis trailed after her, sticking close.
Camila gave him a look, somewhere between amused and exasperated. “I’m going to clean up. Are you planning to follow me in, or what?”
She was mostly teasing, but Dennis just nodded. “Let’s shower together. It’s not like we haven’t done it before.”
Her ears turned pink, but she didn’t say no. They’d already been through everything together. She got it. If he’d been kidnapped and they’d just reunited, she wouldn’t want to let him out of her sight either.
She grabbed clean clothes for both of them and headed into the bathroom. As she turned to hang up the towels, she caught sight of Dennis’s face. There was dark stubble along his jaw, and deep shadows under his eyes. Her heart ached a little. She’d never seen him look so rough around the edges. It was all because of her.
She reached up and brushed her fingers over his chin, her touch gentle and curious. “Where’s your razor? Let me shave you.”
He smiled, soft and warm, and handed her the razor from the cabinet. Then he lifted her onto the sink counter, so they were face to face.
She took her time lathering his jaw with shaving cream, carefully running the blade over his skin until it was smooth again.
“All done,” she said, wiping away the last bit of foam.
