With nothing else to distract him, his mind kept circling back to Camila. Once he started thinking about her, he couldn’t stop worrying about her health, and it felt like he was stuck in an endless loop.

He couldn’t just sit there, so he tried to keep himself busy. Besides tracking the progress on the antidote, the only other thing he could focus on was flushing out whoever was behind all of this.

That’s when Mr. Byron called. “Dennis, everything’s ready on my end. Tomorrow, we’ll move Camila back quietly. Sammy will make sure she leaves no trace. You just need to have someone on standby to pick her up.”

“Got it,” Dennis answered, staring out at the night sky, his eyes cold and unreadable.

At the Lee family house, Cynthia Lee had been in a great mood these past couple of days. She kept looking forward to Dennis coming back, but as more days went by without any news, she got impatient. She didn’t want to ask around herself, so she called Patton over. “Is Dennis still overseas?”

Patton gave her the latest updates. “Yes. Larry Adams, Sarah Brown, and Audrey Williams all went to Kaston to meet Mr. Williams. Larry and Sarah are using every connection they have to track down Camila Davis. They clearly haven’t given up yet.”

Cynthia couldn’t hide her satisfaction. “Let them look. I hope they find Camila’s body. I want them to see with their own eyes what she went through before she died.”

She pictured the Williams family never mentioning Camila Davis again, afraid it would stain their reputation.

Once her excitement faded, she remembered the two people who made all this possible. “Have Sandra Taylor or Lavinia Roberts reached out to you? When are they coming back?”

“They’re too scared to come home right now,” Patton said. “You know how much Mr. Williams cared about Camila Davis. As soon as he recovers from the shock, he’ll want revenge. He’ll start digging for whoever took her. If he finds out Lavinia and Sandra were behind it, things won’t end well for them.”

Cynthia nodded. “Yeah, you’re right. It’s better if they just stay away.” Honestly, she thought it would be even better if those two idiots never made it back at all. They’d already served their purpose. Without Camila, they were just extra baggage—and if they came home, they’d only drag her into trouble.
