“My mom’s health hasn’t been great lately, so I go to the hospital every few days to pick up her medication. That’s totally normal, right?”
Patton still wasn’t convinced. He spoke gently, trying to reason with her. “Camila Davis just had an incident, remember? Audrey Williams said the other day that Mr. Williams has been really unstable. After the way he treated you over Camila, I don’t think it’s a good idea to show up right now. He might just take it out on you again. It’s safer to wait a few more days. For today, let me send someone to keep an eye on things and see what we can find out.”
Cynthia thought about it for a moment. Patton had a point. She wanted Dennis to notice her, not to get annoyed every time she showed up. “Alright, we’ll do it your way,” she said, though she wasn’t thrilled. She’d waited this long. A few more days wouldn’t make a difference.
At the hospital, Patton’s people couldn’t follow Melissa George into her private room. They couldn’t get close enough to catch any conversations either, since Dennis’s bodyguards were standing right outside.
Still, they saw the commotion almost immediately after Dennis walked in. Just seconds later, Larry Adams burst out of the room, panic written all over his face. “Doctor! Someone get a doctor, now!”
Doctors rushed in. Not long after, a gurney came rolling out. It was Camila’s mother, being wheeled straight to the emergency room.
From inside the room, Melissa George’s agonized sobbing could be heard. It went on for a long time before things finally quieted down.
Later that evening, Dennis, Larry, and the others came out. Anyone could see Dennis was in a bad way. He hadn’t shaved, his face was shadowed with stubble, he looked exhausted, and the mood around him was so heavy it felt like the whole group was dragging themselves through mud.
Patton’s guy called immediately to report. “Patton, I talked to a nurse. Camila’s mom fainted after hearing that her daughter went missing overseas and might not come back. When she woke up, she just broke down completely.”
Patton didn’t seem surprised. “What about Mr. Williams? Where did he go?”
“He left the hospital and went over to Larry Adams’s place. Stayed there for a long time. When he finally came out, he was stumbling around like he’d been drinking all day. Larry had someone drive him back to the Williams Estate.”
