Now that things had come to this, Dennis Williams decided there was no point hiding the truth from her anymore.

After helping her settle into a chair, he finally explained, “There’s something going on. I’ve tracked down the people who kidnapped you, but I still don’t know exactly who ordered it. So, I set up a trap. For now, I need you to stay here and lay low for a few days. I’ll take care of everything as fast as I can. Honestly, the reason I came back ahead of you was to get things ready. Camila, trust me, this place is safe.”

Camila hadn’t expected this at all. She felt a surge of warmth at everything Dennis had done for her. She wrapped her arms around him, rubbing her head against his chest like a gentle, affectionate kitten. “I don’t feel wronged at all. You’re the one who’s been working yourself to the bone,” she whispered.

He’d done so much for her, even leaving the country just to look out for her. Staying here for a few days was nothing in comparison.

“I do feel a bit sad that I can’t see Lillian or my parents for now,” she admitted, her voice soft. It had been so long since she’d last seen them. She missed them, even if she hadn’t said it out loud.

Dennis smiled at her, reassuring. “It’s okay. If I get the chance, I’ll sneak Lillian over to visit you. Your parents, though, will have to wait a bit longer.” He knew they still had to play along with his plan.

Camila looked down, her eyes gentle. “How long do you think it’ll be?”

“I can’t say for sure yet,” Dennis replied, “but I promise it won’t be too long.”

“Alright.” Camila accepted it easily, then hesitated before asking, “Will you stay here tonight?” It was already late. She didn’t know where this villa was exactly, but it had to be a long way back for him. The idea of him driving at night didn’t sit well with her.

Dennis chuckled softly, his answer obvious. “Of course. I came here tonight just to be with you.” His return had been so secretive that only a handful of people knew he was back, which meant he could stay with her for a couple of days without anyone finding out.

Camila’s whole face lit up with happiness. Seeing how quickly she could be made so happy made Dennis’s eyes darken with a feeling she couldn’t quite name. He pulled her closer, pressing her into his embrace, and kissed her deeply.

Camila wasn’t aware of the shift in his mood right away. They were used to being close, but she could feel that tonight Dennis’s desire was stronger than ever, full of tenderness and longing.
