“Right before we lost contact with our informant, something huge went down at that church. Overnight, every priest, pastor, and staff member just vanished. Our contact thinks it was probably Professor Keri and his people behind it. He’s taken on all sorts of identities over the years, and being a pastor was one of them.”
Jordan Smith frowned hard, glancing at Nathan Gates. “They were all wiped out? Was it Dennis Williams?”
Nathan shook his head. “Not sure. Word is, the whole thing was massive. It might have been the Kaston authorities. I mean, Dennis is from Estonia. No way he could order Kaston officials around.”
Jordan felt even more confused. “But I thought Kaston’s government was protecting Professor Keri. Why would they suddenly turn on him?” All the intel they had said Professor Keri was backed by people high up in Kaston.
Nathan nodded. “That’s what the informant claimed. Kaston officials were involved that night. Maybe it’s just political infighting. Their elections are coming up, so it could be someone’s enemies making a move.”
Jordan’s face darkened. For the first time, it hit him that his own information was always behind Dennis Williams’s. What was Dennis doing now? There hadn’t been any news about his actions. Did he already know about Professor Keri?
His brow creased as he realized Dennis was more troublesome than he’d expected. Jordan tried to keep his cool and asked, “Are Dennis and Camila still abroad?”
Nathan shook his head again. “I really don’t know. They’ve completely wiped their tracks. I can’t find a single clue.”
Jordan’s frown deepened as he tried to figure out the connection. Logically, Dennis came to Kaston for Camila’s memories. It didn’t make sense for him to vanish before finding Professor Keri. Unless he had another plan. Or maybe Professor Keri was already in his hands.
As the thought hit him, Jordan made up his mind. “Get things ready. We’re flying home today.”
“Today?” Nathan blinked, but quickly understood. “Yes, I’ll get everything set up.” He rushed to book two tickets for that day.
But just as they were about to board, Jordan got a call from Dr. Oakes, the doctor he’d reached out to about his leg. Jordan picked up right away. “Dr. Oakes, is there news about my condition?”
