Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 206

Jordan Smith had always had a sharp nose for business, and right now, Nathan Gates had definitely piqued his interest.

Jordan leaned back in his leather chair, steepling his fingers. “See if you can get your hands on one of those medical devices. I want to see for myself what makes this system so special.”

N. Z Teck’s licensing was still fairly limited—there weren’t many devices out there with the system installed. They’d have to pull some strings to borrow one.

But this was Harrisburg, and the Smith Group’s network was as solid as a Thanksgiving turkey. Nathan nodded, and within the hour, he’d called in a few favors and managed to wrangle a machine for them.

That very morning, Jordan walked into the lab with his core R&D team, ready to see the system in action.

An hour later, the senior engineers were practically blown away.

“This is incredible,” Dr. Bennett muttered, pushing his glasses up his nose. “For a moment there, I thought I was watching a world-class surgeon at work. The data processing is off the charts, and the assistive capabilities for complex procedures… honestly, it’s a game changer.”

“And the database,” added Dr. Carter, shaking his head in disbelief. “It’s packed with knowledge. Whoever built this system, they basically poured every bit of medical wisdom into it—like they had the entire Mayo Clinic in their back pocket.”

“No wonder N. Z Teck’s making waves so fast,” someone else chimed in. “You can’t fake this kind of quality.”

Jordan nodded, his curiosity deepening. “So, you’re saying this system couldn’t be copied easily? Unless someone had the same level of medical expertise as the creator?”

“That’s exactly it,” Dr. Bennett replied. “Whoever built this isn’t just a tech whiz—they know medicine inside and out.”

Nathan’s eyebrows shot up. “Seriously? Someone out there is both a top-notch developer and a medical genius?”

“Looks that way,” the team agreed.

Jordan felt a spark of intrigue. “Does this system have a name?”

Nathan replied quickly, “Yeah, it’s called the M Plan.”

When it was Sandra Taylor’s turn, the mood soured. “We’ve had a wave of cancellations from major clients,” she reported.

Jordan’s expression darkened. He didn’t hold back. “You said the new upgrade was cutting-edge, but after reviewing the results, it’s clear we’re lagging behind. Compared to N. Z Teck, our tech is practically running on dial-up. That’s not what we expect from someone with your overseas credentials. The Smith Group has never seen so many canceled orders.”

Sandra clenched her fists under the table, cheeks burning. Did Jordan really have to call her out in front of everyone? Couldn’t this have been a private conversation?

She blinked back tears, forcing herself to stay professional. “You’re right, the industry is evolving fast, and competition is fierce. I take full responsibility—I’ll do everything I can to turn things around.”

Jordan’s tone softened a bit, and he let the matter drop. But Sandra could feel the chill in his attitude as the meeting ended. He didn’t offer a single word of comfort, just tossed her a new assignment on his way out.

“Dig into N. Z Teck,” he said, not meeting her eyes. “And see what you can learn from their development process.”

Sandra nodded, swallowing her pride, and got to work.
